đź“‹ Description
- • Join WorkWhile as a Staff Software Engineer, Fullstack, and play a pivotal role in revolutionizing the frontline work landscape. We are on a mission to empower millions of hourly workers by creating a more flexible, efficient, and rewarding labor market. As a key member of our engineering team, you will own and evolve complex, user-facing product areas from inception to iteration, directly impacting the lives of workers and the success of businesses.
- • This role demands a blend of deep technical expertise and a strong product-minded approach. You will be instrumental in shaping our product roadmap, translating ambiguous business needs into robust, scalable technical solutions. Your work will span the entire stack, requiring you to make critical decisions about system design, user experience, and delivery speed in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- • You will take ownership of significant product initiatives, driving them from initial product definition and system architecture through to implementation, launch, and continuous improvement. This includes collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to ensure we are building the right products and building them well.
- • A core aspect of this position is to act as a technical leader and a force multiplier for the team. This involves not only writing high-quality code but also actively participating in design reviews, mentoring junior engineers, and proactively unblocking your colleagues. Your contributions will directly influence the technical direction and elevate the overall engineering craft across the entire stack.
- • We are seeking an engineer who thrives on tackling challenging problems and is comfortable navigating ambiguity. You will be expected to frame complex issues, propose well-reasoned technical options, and guide the team toward pragmatic and effective solutions that balance user needs with technical feasibility and speed of delivery.
- • Your responsibilities will include designing and implementing features that enhance both the worker and business sides of our platform. This could involve developing new AI-driven matching algorithms, improving the user experience for shift selection, building out financial tools for same-day pay, or enhancing our telehealth and upskilling offerings.
- • You will be a key contributor to architectural decisions, ensuring our systems are scalable, reliable, and maintainable as WorkWhile continues its rapid growth. This includes evaluating new technologies, establishing best practices, and championing a culture of technical excellence.
- • We encourage a proactive approach to identifying and addressing technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and areas for system optimization. Your insights and actions will be crucial in maintaining the high quality and correctness of our software.
- • Collaboration is key. You will work cross-functionally with product, design, and other engineering teams to ensure seamless integration and alignment with overall business objectives. Your ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and influence decisions across disciplines will be vital.
- • As a Staff Software Engineer, you will have a significant impact on our engineering culture. By mentoring engineers, sharing your knowledge, and promoting best practices, you will help raise the bar for technical quality and foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
- • This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about building products that have a real-world impact and who enjoys the challenges of scaling a technology platform in a high-growth startup. You will be empowered to make significant technical contributions and shape the future of WorkWhile.
- • We value engineers who are not only technically proficient but also deeply understand the user. You will be expected to advocate for the user, ensuring that our technical solutions deliver exceptional value and address the unique needs of frontline workers and the businesses that employ them.
- • You will contribute to the entire software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, coding, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance. Your ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced setting will be essential.
- • We are building a platform that disrupts a massive market, and your technical leadership will be critical to our success. You will be at the forefront of innovation, helping to define how technology can create a more equitable and efficient future of work.
- • This is an opportunity to join a company that is growing rapidly, backed by top-tier investors, and recognized for its innovation. You will work alongside a talented team of engineers with diverse backgrounds from leading tech companies, all united by a shared mission.
- • Embrace the challenge of building and scaling systems that handle complex marketplace dynamics, financial transactions, and sensitive user data, ensuring security, reliability, and performance at every step.
🎯 Requirements
- • Significant experience building and owning complex, user-facing product systems end-to-end, demonstrating depth in either frontend (JavaScript, React, React Native) or backend (Python).
- • Strong working fluency across the full stack, with the proven ability to lead product work and make significant contributions beyond your primary area of expertise.
- • A deeply product-minded approach to engineering, with a genuine passion for user outcomes and a commitment to delivering exceptional user experiences.
- • Proven ability to operate effectively in ambiguous environments, framing problems, proposing well-reasoned options, and guiding teams toward pragmatic and effective solutions.
- • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to influence technical and product direction across various disciplines.
- • Experience mentoring other engineers and a track record of raising team-wide technical quality and best practices (direct people management experience is not a requirement).
🏖️ Benefits
- • Hybrid work culture with office hubs in SF, NY, Seattle & Toronto, offering flexibility.
- • Regular in-person company offsites to foster team connection and collaboration.
- • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
- • Generous flexible time off policy to support work-life balance.
- • 401(k) plan with employer matching contributions.
