đź“‹ Description

  • • Join ALSO, a pioneering electric mobility company born from Rivian, as a Staff Structures Design Engineer and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of personal transportation. We are on a mission to redefine urban mobility by creating innovative, vertically integrated, small electric vehicles (EVs) that are not only affordable and enjoyable but also significantly more efficient than traditional cars, trucks, and SUVs. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be instrumental in the design and development of our drivetrain structures, ensuring they meet the highest standards of performance, durability, and safety.
  • • In this critical role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end design of mechanical components and complex assemblies that form the backbone of our electric drivetrains. This includes leveraging your expertise in various manufacturing processes such as high-pressure die casting, gravity casting, injection molded plastics, and sheet metal fabrication. You will translate conceptual designs into detailed 3D models and create comprehensive 2D drawing packages, complete with manufacturing instructions, to guide our production partners.
  • • A significant aspect of your work will involve rigorous design verification and validation. You will develop and execute Design Verification Process and Reports (DVP&Rs) to meticulously validate that our designs meet all specified requirements. This includes performing topology optimization to balance strength and NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) objectives, identifying optimal ribbing structures within tight package constraints, and ensuring compliance with all structural and NVH performance targets.
  • • Your expertise will extend to advanced analysis techniques. You will conduct sealing analysis, with a particular focus on component hyper-elastic analysis, to ensure the integrity of critical components. Furthermore, you will perform comprehensive NVH analysis, including modal analysis, frequency response, and mount mobility studies, to guarantee a smooth and quiet ride experience for our customers. Linear static stress analyses for complete drive unit systems will be a core responsibility, ensuring the structural integrity of the entire drivetrain under various operating conditions.
  • • Proactive risk management is essential. You will develop and maintain program-specific Design Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (DFMEAs), identifying potential failure points and implementing robust mitigation strategies early in the design cycle. This proactive approach is crucial for preventing issues before they arise and ensuring the reliability of our products.
  • • Collaboration and communication are key to success. You will work closely with a cross-functional team of mechanical, electrical, control, manufacturing, and test engineers, guiding designs from initial concept through prototyping and into mass production. You will also be responsible for coordinating validation efforts with our Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers, ensuring seamless integration and adherence to quality standards. Your ability to effectively communicate technical information and drive consensus among diverse stakeholders will be vital.
  • • Beyond design and analysis, you will contribute hands-on to the engineering process. This includes assisting in engineering prototype builds and component fabrication, providing practical insights and problem-solving capabilities on the shop floor. Your ability to bridge the gap between theoretical design and practical implementation will be highly valued.
  • • This role demands a deep understanding of high-volume manufacturing processes and the ability to design for manufacturability and assembly (DFMA). You will leverage your proficiency in leading 3D/2D modeling tools (Catia V5/V6 preferred) to create precise and efficient designs. Your skills in hands-on mechanical integration, assembly, troubleshooting, and documentation of mechanical and electromechanical systems will be essential for bringing complex designs to life.
  • • You will utilize advanced CAE analysis software packages (e.g., Ansys, Abaqus, Hyperworks) to simulate real-world performance, with a strong understanding of how to define appropriate boundary conditions and apply them to various drive unit components to accurately capture realistic interactions. Experience with Matlab and/or Python for scripting and data analysis will be beneficial. A solid grasp of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance stack-up analyses is required to ensure the precise fit and function of components. Understanding of loads and their application on drive unit components, coupled with a strong fundamental knowledge of material properties, heat treatment, statics, dynamics, and mechanics of materials, will underpin your success in this role.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Proficiency in 3D/2D modeling tools (Catia V5/V6 preferred but not required).
  • • Proficiency with CAE analysis software packages like Ansys, Abaqus, Hyperwork, or similar.
  • • Experience with high volume manufacturing processes such as injection molding, stamping, casting, etc.
  • • Strong fundamental knowledge of statics, dynamics, and mechanics of materials.
  • • Experience with Matlab and/or Python.
  • • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance stack-up analyses.

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Robust health coverage: Excellent health, dental, and vision insurance covered up to 100% by ALSO with FSA & HSA options.
  • • One Medical membership and dedicated insurance advocates.
  • • Rich fertility and family building benefits with Progyny.
  • • Flexible time off.
  • • 401(k) match.
