- • As a Staff Technical Writer at Fivetran, you will play a pivotal role in making data access as simple and reliable as electricity by creating and maintaining world-class technical documentation that empowers customers to successfully use Fivetran’s data integration platform. Your work directly impacts customer success, product adoption, and the overall user experience by ensuring that complex database and data warehouse concepts are communicated with clarity, accuracy, and consistency.
- • You will create and maintain clear, accurate product documentation and release notes; review and refine customer-facing content including error messages and UI text; use a docs-as-code approach to collaborate with engineers, product managers, and cross-functional contributors; improve existing documentation for technical accuracy, clarity, and consistency; collaborate with a global writing team to define and evolve documentation standards, style, and terminology; partner with engineers and subject matter experts to deliver best-in-class technical documentation; contribute to style guides, templates, and shared resources that elevate content quality across the organization; and act as a writing resource for other teams to improve content quality company-wide.
- • Fivetran’s Technical Communications Team is a globally distributed, collaborative group that owns technical documentation and in-product text, working closely with Product, Engineering, Design, and Support teams to produce documentation that receives rave reviews from customers and is considered a core part of the product. The team values precision, clarity, and user-centricity, and operates within a culture that emphasizes innovation, inclusivity, and continuous improvement.
- • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in enterprise database documentation, refine your leadership in technical communication practices, influence documentation standards across a fast-growing SaaS company, and gain hands-on experience with docs-as-code workflows, automation, and AI-assisted content delivery—positioning you as a trusted authority in technical writing for data infrastructure products.
🎯 Requirements
- • Extensive expertise in database documentation: 8+ years documenting databases or cloud applications for a US-centric audience, with strong knowledge of SQL queries, schemas, tables, permissions, and procedures.
- • Deep technical knowledge: Experience with complex database and data warehouse technologies, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), data pipelines (ETL/ELT), and replication techniques.
- • Exceptional communication skills: Proven ability to craft clear, concise, and accurate documentation; strong technical editing abilities; impeccable grammar; and consistent application of style guides.
- • Documentation leadership: Expertise in content planning, creation, and review processes, with a track record of implementing best practices that elevate documentation quality.
- • Project management: Experience leading small to medium-sized documentation projects, mentoring writers, and balancing multiple initiatives in cross-functional environments.
- • Collaboration and customer focus: Strong history of working with engineers, writers, and globally distributed teams, translating customer needs into improved documentation that drives customer success.
