Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the end-to-end commodity strategy for data-center and client compute platforms, driving multi-million-dollar annual spend across CPUs, GPUs, memory, storage controllers, and interconnect technologies that power Western Digital’s industry-leading flash and HDD solutions.
- • Translate long-range product roadmaps into actionable sourcing strategies, balancing performance, cost, risk, and supplier capability to ensure every new platform launches on time, on budget, and with best-in-class technology.
- • Build and continuously refresh a three-year technology and supplier roadmap that anticipates shifts in compute, memory, and I/O landscapes—turning market intelligence into competitive advantage for Western Digital’s cloud, OEM, and channel customers.
- • Lead cross-functional commodity councils with engineering, finance, quality, and operations to align on specifications, total-cost targets, and risk mitigation plans; facilitate data-driven decisions that compress development cycles and accelerate revenue realization.
- • Negotiate global frame agreements, volume pricing, and capacity reservation contracts with tier-1 semiconductor and platform suppliers; secure favorable terms that reduce COGS by 3-5 % year-over-year while safeguarding supply continuity during demand spikes.
- • Institute a rigorous supplier performance management program—score-carding on quality, delivery, technology, and responsiveness—and drive quarterly business reviews that convert metrics into joint improvement roadmaps and innovation projects.
- • Orchestrate early-supplier-involvement (ESI) initiatives during concept and EVT phases, ensuring that emerging technologies (e.g., PCIe Gen 5/6, DDR5/6, CXL, advanced packaging) are de-risked and cost-optimized before design lock.
- • Develop scenario-based risk models that quantify the impact of geopolitical events, foundry constraints, and raw-material volatility; present mitigation options (dual sourcing, buffer inventory, geographic diversification) to executive leadership for rapid decision-making.
- • Champion sustainability and responsible sourcing by embedding Western Digital’s ESG goals into supplier selection criteria—tracking carbon footprint, conflict-mineral compliance, and labor standards across the platform commodity portfolio.
- • Create and socialize a commodity playbook that standardizes sourcing processes, RFx templates, and negotiation best practices across global sites in the US, APAC, and EMEA, enabling consistent execution and faster onboarding of new team members.
- • Leverage advanced analytics and BI dashboards to monitor market indices (DRAMeXchange, Gartner, IDC), price trends, and supplier financial health—transforming raw data into actionable insights that inform quarterly should-cost models and budget forecasts.
- • Mentor junior sourcing analysts and rotational program associates, providing technical guidance on platform architecture, cost modeling, and supplier negotiations to build the next generation of strategic sourcing leaders.
- • Drive continuous improvement through Lean Six Sigma methodologies, leading Kaizen events that eliminate non-value-added activities and reduce sourcing cycle time from PR to PO by 20 % within the first year.
- • Represent Western Digital at industry consortia, standards bodies, and supplier technology days, evangelizing our technology vision while gathering competitive intelligence to refine long-term commodity strategies.
- • Report directly to the VP of Global Strategic Sourcing with dotted-line accountability to BU GMs, presenting monthly scorecards, quarterly strategy updates, and annual savings achievements that influence capital allocation and product portfolio decisions.
