  • • Work as a student placement during your university gap year to apply academic Computer Science knowledge in a real-world, professional environment at Cerence Inc.
  • • Conduct experiments and develop small applications to translate theoretical concepts into practical solutions within a team focused on AI and voice technology.
  • • Engage regularly with colleagues, supervisors, and support teams to progress on assigned projects, meet delivery deadlines, and align with team objectives.
  • • Take initiative in identifying new challenges and contributing proactively to the team’s success through independent problem-solving and collaboration.
  • • Own assigned development tasks from start to finish, including documentation, code implementation, and presenting outcomes to the team.
  • • Establish and maintain clear communication with your supervisor to ensure understanding of expectations, seek guidance when needed, and receive feedback.
  • • Demonstrate proficiency in computer programming, primarily using Python, with evidence of individual coursework projects or assignments.
  • • Apply software engineering principles using scripting languages such as shell scripting or Perl in both Linux and Windows environments.
  • • Communicate effectively in English, both in writing and orally, to collaborate across teams and document technical work.
  • • Adhere to company security protocols, including data privacy practices, reporting suspicious activity, and following compliance procedures.
  • • Participate in internal security training programs to maintain awareness of information security standards and corporate policies.
  • • Contribute to Cerence’s mission of shaping the future of AI in automotive voice assistants by supporting innovation in a global, industry-leading team.
  • • Gain exposure to cutting-edge technologies including Large Language Models (LLMs), natural language processing, and speech technology through hands-on project work.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Must be currently enrolled in a UK university pursuing a Computer Science degree or related field
  • • Must have completed at least 2 years of undergraduate study
  • • Must have completed basic Computer Science courses with hands-on programming experience, preferably in Python
  • • Must have demonstrated software engineering skills, including experience with scripting languages (e.g., shell, Perl) and working in both Linux and Windows environments
  • • Must possess solid written and oral communication skills in English
  • • Must have basic knowledge of information security and data privacy requirements
