- • As the foundational Tax Director at Zip, you will be instrumental in establishing and leading our global tax function from the ground up. Reporting directly to the Chief Accounting Officer (CAO), you will be entrusted with the comprehensive ownership of Zip's entire tax strategy. This pivotal role demands a strategic and hands-on approach to navigate the complexities of international tax planning, intricate transfer pricing methodologies, diverse indirect tax landscapes (including VAT and GST), and meticulous local compliance across all jurisdictions where Zip operates. You will serve as a critical strategic partner, collaborating closely with our Product, Legal, Finance, and Engineering teams. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring that Zip's ambitious global expansion is not only seamless but also tax-efficient, laying a robust foundation for sustainable growth and operational excellence.
- • Your primary responsibility will be to design and implement a highly scalable and adaptable global tax structure. This structure must be capable of supporting Zip’s aggressive international expansion plans and accommodating the inevitable evolution of our business model. You will proactively anticipate future needs and build a tax framework that is both resilient and agile, ready to adapt to new markets, products, and regulatory environments.
- • A significant focus of your role will be the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of robust global transfer pricing policies. This includes ensuring comprehensive and compliant documentation, establishing clear intercompany agreements that reflect arm's length principles, and conducting thorough benchmarking studies to validate these policies. You will ensure that all intercompany transactions are appropriately structured and documented to comply with international tax regulations.
- • You will be responsible for the meticulous management of all global indirect tax obligations, encompassing Value Added Tax (VAT), Goods and Services Tax (GST), and Sales Tax across various regions. This involves understanding the nuances of each tax regime, ensuring timely and accurate filings, and implementing systems to manage compliance effectively.
- • A key aspect of your role is to continuously monitor and evaluate the dynamic landscape of global tax laws and regulations. You will stay abreast of all significant changes, assess their potential impact on Zip's operations and financial performance, and provide timely, relevant updates and strategic guidance to senior management. This proactive approach will enable the company to adapt swiftly to new requirements and capitalize on opportunities.
- • You will act as a key strategic advisor, thoroughly assessing the tax implications of all significant business initiatives. This includes, but is not limited to, evaluating the tax considerations of new market entries, potential mergers or acquisitions, and the launch of new products or services, ensuring that tax is integrated into strategic decision-making from the outset.
- • You will oversee the entire process of preparing and reviewing tax returns at federal, state, and international levels. Accuracy, timeliness, and strict compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations will be paramount. You will ensure that all filings are accurate, complete, and submitted within statutory deadlines.
- • A core responsibility is the management of the tax provision process, ensuring strict adherence to relevant accounting standards, particularly ASC 740. You will be responsible for the accurate calculation and reporting of the company's tax provision, deferred taxes, and related disclosures.
- • You will be tasked with maintaining and continuously enhancing the internal control framework surrounding all tax processes. This includes identifying potential control weaknesses, implementing robust controls, and ensuring that all tax-related activities are conducted with integrity and transparency.
- • You will actively identify and implement opportunities for process improvements across all tax functions. The goal is to enhance overall tax efficiency, improve accuracy, reduce risk, and streamline operations, leveraging technology and best practices.
- • You will lead and manage all tax-related audits and inquiries initiated by global tax authorities. This requires a proactive approach to risk identification and mitigation, particularly within the context of a high-growth fintech environment, ensuring that Zip is well-prepared and represented during any tax examinations.
- • You will be responsible for managing and optimizing relationships with external third-party tax advisors and service providers across the globe. This includes selecting, onboarding, and overseeing the work of these partners to ensure they deliver high-quality, cost-effective support aligned with Zip's strategic objectives.
