📋 Description

• Lead a cross-functional engineering team of 6–10 professionals with equal emphasis on hands-on technical work (50%) and leadership responsibilities (50%).
• Serve as a technical leader by actively designing, coding, and delivering high-quality, scalable applications using Node.js.
• Conduct thorough code reviews to uphold coding standards, ensure technical quality, and promote best practices in development, testing, and deployment.
• Mentor team members by providing technical guidance, fostering skill development, and supporting career growth through structured feedback and performance cycles.
• Collaborate closely with product and design teams to create exceptional user experiences and align technical execution with business objectives.
• Drive technical planning and execution by balancing short-term deliverables with long-term system health, scalability, and maintainability.
• Implement and promote Agile methodologies to enhance team productivity, iteration speed, and overall engineering effectiveness.
• Define and execute technical strategies aligned with organizational goals, leveraging rapid prototyping and iterative development to drive innovation.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate technical risks to ensure timely and reliable delivery of features and systems.
• Represent the engineering team in cross-functional discussions, translating technical constraints and opportunities into clear business-aligned recommendations.
• Push back on product decisions when necessary, advocating for technical health, scalability, and sustainable architecture through well-reasoned, data-informed arguments.
• Resolve complex, multi-team technical challenges by facilitating collaboration across disciplines and ensuring alignment on shared objectives.
• Play an active role in hiring, onboarding, and scaling engineering teams while ensuring cultural alignment with Deel’s values of inclusion and excellence.
• Cultivate a team culture rooted in collaboration, continuous learning, diversity, and engineering excellence.
• Maintain deep expertise in software engineering fundamentals, including object-oriented programming principles, clean code practices, and testable system design.
• Write and optimize complex SQL queries with full understanding of data structures and query performance impact.
• Debug and troubleshoot integrations across APIs and distributed systems, ensuring seamless data flow between services.
• Perform root cause analysis across code, data, and system layers to resolve production issues and prevent recurrence.
• Respond to and manage production incidents, escalations, and system outages with efficiency and accountability.
• Ensure all technical solutions are designed for scalability, maintainability, and resilience in a global, high-traffic SaaS environment.
• Communicate technical challenges, trade-offs, and solutions effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of team processes, tooling, and engineering standards across the organization.

🎯 Requirements

• Strong software engineering fundamentals including object-oriented programming (OOP) principles
• Experience designing maintainable, scalable systems with clean, testable code
• Solid SQL skills: ability to write complex queries from scratch and understand data structure and query performance impact
• Proven experience working with APIs and distributed systems, including debugging integrations and understanding data flow across services
• Demonstrated ability to conduct root cause analysis across code, data, and systems in production environments
• Hands-on experience with Node.js and JavaScript in production-scale applications
