• • As the Tech Lead Manager for Automation at Jerry.ai, you will be at the forefront of revolutionizing the car ownership experience by tackling the most complex and critical aspects of our insurance marketplace. Our mission is to simplify car ownership, an experience that remains frustratingly outdated for the vast majority of Americans. While cars are a necessity, the journey of acquiring, insuring, and maintaining them is fragmented, expensive, and time-consuming. Jerry.ai is building the first comprehensive mobile app to manage all facets of car ownership, and our core differentiator lies in our ability to automate the end-to-end shopping experience. Your role will be pivotal in owning and evolving the most crucial part of this automation: the 'last mile' of insurance policy purchases.
• • This involves orchestrating intricate, multi-step transactions with external systems, a challenge amplified by the industry's lack of modern APIs. You will be responsible for building and refining custom orchestration layers that navigate internal and external interfaces with exceptional precision. This is a high-stakes puzzle that demands mastery of asynchronous state management and a deep commitment to real-time system reliability. Your primary technical challenge will be to evolve our current automation systems into a robust, fault-tolerant framework capable of gracefully handling external interface changes and scaling across dozens of new categories with minimal manual intervention.
• • You will report directly to our co-founder CTO, who is deeply involved in product implementation, ensuring a direct line of communication and minimal red tape. This environment fosters rapid iteration, allowing you to pitch, build, and deploy ideas within days. You will join a small but exceptionally talented team, characterized by a high bar for talent and a shared passion for innovation. • • This role is highly hands-on, appealing to individuals who thrive on solving difficult problems and getting their hands dirty. You can expect to spend approximately 80% of your time engaged in direct technical work. This includes leading the transition of our legacy automation systems into a more decoupled, scalable, and resilient architecture. You will be instrumental in designing and implementing new engineering standards, and you will actively pair with other engineers to ensure the development of a predictable and highly testable system.
• • In Phase 1 of your tenure, you will immerse yourself in the intricacies of our core product. This involves deep dives into both the technical underpinnings and the complex business logic of insurance, understanding how each provider operates uniquely. You will then lead the incremental refactoring of our existing automation systems, establishing new architectural patterns and best practices. As the architecture matures and stabilizes, your focus will shift in Phase 2 towards an AI-first approach. You will leverage cutting-edge AI technologies to build the next generation of internal tools, designed to support our ambitious growth from 5 million to 50 million users.
• • The volume of customer data available at Jerry.ai is immense, providing invaluable insights for product, technical, and business decisions. As a consumer-facing business with over 5 million customers, we collect data across various behaviors, including driving telematics, shopping habits, and payment patterns. This data-rich environment empowers us to make informed, data-driven decisions.
• • Your responsibilities will include taking ownership of our automation systems, which were initially built for speed rather than scalability. Today, they represent a complex web of tightly coupled business logic and database access, making changes risky and failures challenging to debug. You will be the architect of change, driving the evolution towards a more maintainable and scalable solution. This role is ideal for someone who is a natural builder, a meticulous detective obsessed with success rates and edge cases, and a visionary systems thinker with a high bar for asynchronous system design.
