Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Lead the technical direction of your engineering team as an individual contributor, without direct reports, by defining architecture standards, API contracts, and event-driven system designs using Kafka.
  • • Design, build, and scale high-reliability, high-performance services in Ruby on Rails and Node.js, ensuring maintainability and long-term scalability in production environments.
  • • Act as a core member of the company’s technical architecture team, contributing to cross-team decisions on domain boundaries, integration standards, observability, and system resilience.
  • • Author and review technical RFCs and design proposals, clearly communicating complex technical trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders in Spanish and English.
  • • Resolve the most complex production issues, including debugging distributed systems, managing incident response, and implementing fixes for partial failures, consistency challenges, and capacity bottlenecks.
  • • Conduct rigorous yet constructive code reviews and design reviews to elevate the technical quality and maturity of the entire engineering team.
  • • Mentor engineers at all levels to grow their technical skills, foster autonomy, and cultivate the next generation of technical leaders within the organization.
  • • Collaborate with Product and the Engineering Manager to translate business objectives into executable technical plans, with the discipline to say no to technically sound but misaligned initiatives.
  • • Enforce quality standards across testing, CI/CD pipelines, security practices, and AI-assisted development workflows, ensuring rigorous validation of AI-generated code.
  • • Operate and optimize microservices deployed on Kubernetes within GCP, AWS, or Azure, with deep understanding of observability tools including tracing, structured logging, and metrics.
  • • Make informed frontend architecture decisions by applying solid knowledge of modern React/Next.js to ensure seamless integration between frontend and backend systems.
  • • Use AI tools daily in development workflows with critical judgment to validate outputs, improve efficiency, and help define team-wide AI adoption guidelines.
  • • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively in both written and verbal form across languages and disciplines.
  • • Contribute to the evolution of legacy systems by designing and executing strategies for decomposition, migration, and modernization toward scalable microservices.
  • • Ensure all systems adhere to industry best practices for idempotency, fault tolerance, and scalability under real-world production loads.

🎯 Requirements

  • • B2 English or higher proficiency
  • • 8+ years of software engineering experience with deep production expertise in both Ruby on Rails and Node.js
  • • Proven track record of technically leading development teams and executing technical direction successfully
  • • Experience designing and operating scalable microservices and APIs in production, including event-driven systems with Kafka or equivalent
  • • Hands-on experience with distributed systems: consistency, idempotency, partial failure handling, capacity planning, and observability (tracing, metrics, structured logging)
  • • Operational experience with Kubernetes on GCP, AWS, or Azure
  • • Solid understanding of modern frontend technologies (React/Next.js) sufficient to make cross-stack architectural decisions
  • • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and elevate team technical standards
  • • Daily, critical use of AI tools in software development with ability to validate outputs
  • • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both Spanish and English
