📋 Description

• Lead the technical direction of a development team as an individual contributor, without direct people management responsibilities, while serving as the primary technical reference for architecture and engineering excellence.
• Design, build, and scale high-reliability, high-performance services using Ruby on Rails and Node.js, with emphasis on maintainability, scalability, and operational resilience in production environments.
• Define and communicate technical architecture decisions including service boundaries, API contracts, event-driven workflows using Kafka, and strategies for modernizing legacy systems.
• Actively participate in the company’s technical architecture team, contributing to cross-team decisions on domain boundaries, integration standards, observability, and system resiliency.
• Write, review, and present RFCs and design proposals, clearly communicating technical trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders in Spanish and English.
• Resolve the most complex technical problems in distributed systems, including debugging production incidents, handling partial failures, and leading incident response efforts.
• Conduct rigorous yet constructive code reviews and design reviews that elevate the technical quality and maturity of the entire engineering team.
• Mentor engineers at all levels to grow their technical skills, foster autonomy, and cultivate the next generation of technical leaders.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering Management to translate business objectives into executable technical plans, including the ability to say no to technically sound but misaligned initiatives.
• Ensure adherence to quality standards across testing, CI/CD pipelines, security practices, and AI-assisted development workflows with quality control mechanisms.
• Use AI tools daily and reflexively to amplify personal and team productivity, while helping define team-wide guidelines for responsible AI adoption in development.
• Operate services on Kubernetes within major cloud providers (GCP, AWS, or Azure) and ensure robust capacity planning, monitoring, tracing, and structured logging.
• Make informed architectural decisions that span frontend and backend systems, requiring solid understanding of modern frontend frameworks like React and Next.js.
• Contribute to the evolution of development practices by defining and refining AI-assisted coding standards, code review protocols for AI-generated code, and quality evaluation frameworks.
• Work within a multicultural, remote-first environment focused on transforming logistics for LATAM businesses through technology.

🎯 Requirements

• B2 English or higher proficiency
• 8+ years of software engineering experience with deep, production-level expertise in both Ruby on Rails and Node.js
• Proven track record of leading technical direction for development teams without direct reports
• Experience designing and operating scalable microservices and APIs in production, including event-driven systems with Kafka or equivalent
• Hands-on experience with distributed systems: consistency, idempotency, partial failure handling, capacity planning, and observability (tracing, metrics, structured logging)
• Operational experience with Kubernetes on GCP, AWS, or Azure
• Solid working knowledge of modern frontend technologies (React/Next.js) sufficient to make cross-stack architectural decisions
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and elevate team technical standards
• Daily, critical use of AI tools in software development with ability to review and validate outputs
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in both Spanish and English
