📋 Description

• Join Cottingham Butler Claims Services as a TPA General Liability Claims Adjuster and experience the freedom of 100 % remote work while tackling some of the industry’s most complex construction-defect exposures. You will be the primary point of contact for policyholders, contractors, and defense counsel, guiding multi-party claims from initial notice through resolution and ensuring every stakeholder feels heard, informed, and respected.
• Own a diverse caseload of construction-defect and general liability claims valued from $50 K to $5 M+, ranging from residential water-intrusion losses to large commercial structural failures. You will investigate coverage, evaluate liability, retain and direct experts, set accurate reserves, negotiate settlements, and prepare detailed reports that stand up to audit, reinspection, and litigation scrutiny.
• Leverage cutting-edge claims technology and cloud-based document management to conduct virtual site inspections, host remote mediations, and maintain real-time file diaries—eliminating windshield time while still delivering the boots-on-the-ground thoroughness that clients expect.
• Collaborate daily with a tight-knit, fully distributed team of senior adjusters, coverage counsel, and construction consultants who meet via video stand-ups, Slack huddles, and quarterly virtual summits. You’ll share strategies on emerging defect trends, ISO form updates, and state-specific statute-of-repose rulings, raising the collective IQ of the group.
• Drive best-in-class customer experience by responding to all emails and calls within two business hours, translating technical coverage language into plain English for anxious homeowners, and proactively updating contractors on claim status so projects stay on schedule and reputations stay intact.
• Champion accurate reserving practices by running Monte-Carlo cost models, benchmarking against historical Cottingham Butler data, and presenting reserve recommendations to a roundtable of senior technical managers within 30 days of assignment—keeping balance-sheet surprises to zero.
• Manage litigation budgets and defense counsel performance through quarterly scorecards, early-case evaluations, and alternative-fee arrangements. You will approve or deny CMEs, author 20-day letters, and attend virtual mediations armed with settlement authority up to $250 K (higher limits available with AVP sign-off).
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by logging defect-pattern trends in our proprietary analytics dashboard, flagging potential class-action exposures, and partnering with underwriting to refine contractor guidelines and policy endorsements that reduce future claim frequency.
• Maintain strict compliance with state DOI regulations, TPA licensing requirements, and client-specific service-level agreements. You will complete mandatory CE hours, submit quarterly compliance attestations, and mentor junior adjusters on ethical claim-handling standards.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of multi-state general liability claims-handling experience, including at least 2 years dedicated to construction-defect matters
• Active adjuster licenses in home state plus willingness to obtain non-resident licenses as needed (CBCS covers all fees)
• Proficiency with XactAnalysis, ClaimXperience, or similar claims management platforms
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and industry certifications (AIC, CPCU, SCLA highly preferred)
• Demonstrated ability to manage 75+ active files while maintaining sub-90-day average closure times
