Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues with drone systems, including airframe, connectivity, and radar systems, ensuring operational reliability in field deployments.
- • Review post-flight telemetry using diagnostic tools such as Foxglove and Grafana to monitor vehicle performance, identify anomalies, and inform engineering improvements.
- • Develop and maintain KPI dashboards that track drone system performance metrics and prioritize engineering escalations based on field data.
- • Update and optimize preventative maintenance and inspection schedules for drone fleets in collaboration with operations teams to reduce downtime and extend hardware lifespan.
- • Serve as the primary feedback conduit between field operations and core engineering teams, translating real-world hardware failures into actionable bug reports and design improvement recommendations.
- • Create and maintain comprehensive technical SOPs and troubleshooting guides to standardize support processes and scale team capabilities as the fleet expands.
- • Participate in hands-on hardware bring-up and QA testing of new drone airframes and docking infrastructure, applying industrial automation principles to ensure 24/7 autonomous reliability.
- • Conduct in-person inspections of the Atlanta-based drone fleet and shadow senior engineers during live telemetry monitoring sessions to build operational proficiency.
- • Independently triage and resolve Tier 2 technical escalations involving vehicle performance, radar systems, and docking reliability within 60 days of hire.
- • Define and implement new diagnostic views in monitoring dashboards to enhance real-time visibility into drone system health and “heartbeats.”
- • Own the Technical Support Playbook and SOPs for next-generation aircraft and docking systems, ensuring consistent deployment standards across global operations.
- • Establish predictive maintenance and inspection schedules based on analyzed failure modes and telemetry trends to proactively mitigate system risks.
- • Act as the Subject Matter Expert for battery management systems (BMS) and radar health, providing critical feedback to the hardware design team to influence future iterations.
- • Lead the bring-up process for new fleet deployments, ensuring all systems meet Flock’s rigorous QA and safety standards before going live.
- • Travel up to 25% of the time to client sites for on-site support, hardware validation, and field testing.
- • Achieve Level 1 internal certification on existing drone airframes, connectivity modules, and docking hardware within the first 30 days of employment.
- • Set up and gain proficiency in the company’s diagnostic data stack, including Foxglove, Grafana, and RF configuration workflows, within the first 30 days.
- • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and product teams to ensure seamless integration of field insights into product development cycles.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or proven equivalent field experience.
- • 3+ years of hands-on experience troubleshooting and maintaining Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).
- • Experience with hardware diagnostic tools (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes) and digital telemetry platforms (e.g., Grafana, Foxglove).
- • Familiarity with GPS, LTE, and RF communication systems between UAS hardware and infrastructure.
- • Demonstrated ability to translate technical hardware failures into clear, actionable documentation and SOPs.
- • Excellent teamwork skills and proven ability to execute within a cross-functional, high-performance environment.
