- • Evaluate and approve title policy exceptions, endorsements, and coverage requests for residential and commercial real estate transactions in Texas.
- • Recommend solutions for complex title issues by analyzing title searches, examinations, commitments, legal descriptions, and recorded instruments.
- • Determine premiums, terms, and conditions for title insurance policies in accordance with established rules, rates, and underwriting guidelines.
- • Identify risk trends across transactions and support process improvements to reduce claims exposure and enhance consistency in underwriting decisions.
- • Apply in-depth knowledge of Texas real property law, common title defects, curative practices, and state-specific insurability standards.
- • Interpret and analyze legal documentation to assess insurability and ensure compliance with underwriting standards.
- • Solve moderately complex to complex underwriting problems using technical experience, sound judgment, and precedent-based decision-making.
- • Serve as a subject matter expert and resource for colleagues, providing guidance and mentorship to less experienced underwriters.
- • Work as an individual contributor with limited oversight, managing a high volume of transactions independently.
- • Lead projects within the underwriting discipline to improve efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness of closings.
- • Communicate underwriting decisions clearly and professionally to internal teams and external customers.
- • Perform all other duties as assigned by management to support operational goals and compliance requirements.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of related work experience in title insurance underwriting
- • Strong working knowledge of Texas real property concepts, common title defects, curative practices, and insurability standards
- • Ability to interpret title searches, commitments, legal descriptions, and recorded instruments
- • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred
- • Excellent communication skills and sound judgment for explaining complex underwriting decisions
- • Ability to work independently with limited oversight
