📋 Description

• The US Payroll Operations role at OpenAI is mission-critical infrastructure, ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing for over 5,000 US employees while maintaining compliance across federal, state, and local regulations.
• Day-to-day responsibilities include processing biweekly payrolls, supporting M&A payroll activities, managing outsourced payroll/BPO partner relationships, resolving employee payroll inquiries, driving process improvements through automation and AI-enabled solutions, creating and maintaining SOPs and documentation, partnering with HR and Benefits teams, and developing employee-facing payroll resources and self-service tools.
• OpenAI Finance ensures the organization is set up for success in pursuit of its mission, with the Payroll team serving as a critical function in one of the fastest-growing and most technically sophisticated organizations in the world.
• In this role, you will gain deep expertise in scaling payroll operations at scale, lead continuous improvement initiatives using AI and automation, strengthen cross-functional collaboration with HR and Benefits, and develop leadership in payroll compliance, process design, and employee support within a high-impact, innovative environment.

🎯 Requirements

• 7+ years of progressive experience in payroll operations, preferably in a fast-paced or high-growth environment
• Strong working knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and local payroll regulations, including employee mobility and multi-state taxation
• Hands-on experience with Workday Payroll required
• Ability to independently manage multiple competing priorities and deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
• Clear and concise communication skills for effective partnership with internal and external stakeholders
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, HR, or related field, or equivalent practical experience; CPP certification strongly preferred
