📋 Description

• As a Virtual Pharmacy Technician (Prior Authorization Specialist) at Virta Health, you will play a critical role in supporting the company’s mission to reverse metabolic disease in 1 billion people by ensuring timely and accurate medication access for members with type 2 diabetes, obesity, and prediabetes. Your work directly impacts patient outcomes by removing barriers to essential therapies through expert handling of prescriptions, prior authorizations, and insurance coordination.
• You will manage end-to-end prescription processing, including intake, verification, and transmission to pharmacies, while proactively resolving issues that could delay therapy initiation or continuation for Virta’s member population.
• A core responsibility involves leading prior authorization workflows — researching payer requirements, compiling clinical documentation, submitting requests to insurance providers, and following up persistently until approvals are secured or alternative pathways are identified.
• You will serve as the primary liaison between Virta’s clinical team, external pharmacies, and insurance carriers, translating clinical needs into administrative actions and resolving discrepancies in real time to maintain uninterrupted care.
• Maintaining meticulous, HIPAA-compliant records of all pharmacy transactions, authorization statuses, and communications is essential to support audit readiness, quality reporting, and continuous process improvement.
• You will triage and work through a dynamic queue of provider requests, prioritizing urgent cases while ensuring all tasks are completed with accuracy, timeliness, and thorough documentation in Virta’s pharmacy operations systems.
• Within your first 90 days, you will deepen your expertise in Virta’s specific pharmacy and prior authorization protocols, build trusted relationships with key external partners (pharmacies, payers), and begin identifying process inefficiencies to propose and implement data-driven improvements.
• You will gain hands-on experience with Virta’s integrated technology stack, including electronic prescribing (e-prescribing) platforms and prior authorization software, becoming proficient in navigating these tools to maximize efficiency and reduce turnaround times.
• By contributing to high-priority initiatives — such as streamlining GLP-1 medication access or enhancing payer communication protocols — you will directly support the scalability and success of Virta’s virtual diabetes reversal program.
• This role offers significant professional growth in specialized healthcare operations, allowing you to develop expertise in telehealth pharmacy services, value-based care models, and the intersection of clinical care and administrative workflows in a rapidly scaling digital health organization.

🎯 Requirements

• 2+ years of experience as a pharmacy technician or in a closely related role involving prescription processing and prior authorizations
• Proven experience handling prescriptions and prior authorizations, including familiarity with electronic prescribing and prior authorization software systems
• Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in high-volume, fast-paced environments
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities to effectively interact with pharmacies, insurance companies, and internal clinical teams
• Demonstrated flexibility and problem-solving aptitude in dynamic healthcare settings, with the ability to learn quickly and implement effective solutions
