• • As the VP of Engineering at Apaleo GmbH, you will be instrumental in leading and scaling our dynamic engineering organization, currently comprising over 40 talented professionals. This pivotal role offers the unique opportunity to shape the technical direction of Apaleo, a leading API-first property management platform that is revolutionizing the hospitality industry. You will be at the forefront of developing a modular, AI-powered infrastructure designed to empower hoteliers with customizable tech stacks, automated workflows, and enhanced guest experiences.
• • Your primary responsibility will be to provide strategic and operational leadership to our engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation, high performance, and continuous improvement. You will work closely with Product, Design, and Executive Leadership to align engineering efforts with overarching business goals, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and reliable systems.
• • A key aspect of your role will involve nurturing and developing our engineering talent. This includes leading, coaching, and mentoring Engineering Managers, Tech Leads, and individual contributors within a 50+ person organization. You will be responsible for building a healthy, inclusive, and high-performance engineering culture, driving career development, ensuring performance clarity, and implementing robust succession planning strategies. Strengthening team rituals and fostering cross-crew collaboration will be essential to our success.
• • You will ensure predictable, high-quality delivery across our six engineering teams by maturing planning and execution processes, effectively managing dependencies, and proactively mitigating risks. A critical part of this will be tracking and improving key engineering KPIs such as cycle time, Mean Time To Recovery (MTTR), and Change Failure Rate (CFR), while maintaining a sustainable pace and removing blockers to ensure smooth operations.
• • Strategically, you will co-own the long-term product and platform strategy with Product and Tech Leadership. This involves translating high-level business objectives into actionable engineering plans and sequencing initiatives. You will ensure our architecture is designed to support future scalability, unwavering reliability, and cost efficiency, identifying capability gaps and driving organization-wide improvements to meet these demands.
• • While enabling and empowering teams, you will also provide essential technical leadership. This includes upholding rigorous engineering standards, ensuring high design quality, promoting comprehensive documentation, and championing effective code reviews. You will champion maintainability and proactive tech-debt stewardship, partnering closely with Staff+ leaders on critical architecture and design decisions to maintain technical excellence.
• • Furthermore, you will oversee budgeting and resource management for the engineering department. This involves managing tooling, vendor relationships, and overall engineering spend, making thoughtful capacity and investment decisions that align with our long-term strategic goals and ensure efficient resource allocation.
