- • The Admissions Reader/Application File Review Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity and fairness of the medical school admissions process at Washington University in St. Louis by conducting initial, mission-aligned reviews of all MD and MD/PhD program applications.
- • This part-time, temporary, remote position supports the university’s commitment to holistic admissions by evaluating applicant files using standardized rubrics, identifying incomplete submissions, and maintaining strict confidentiality throughout the review cycle from June to December.
- • The role involves attending mandatory training sessions in June and early July, followed by consistent application review work from July through December, with peak activity occurring in August, September, and October.
- • Daily responsibilities include assessing application completeness, flagging missing or incomplete materials for follow-up by admissions leadership, and evaluating each file using a standardized, mission-driven rubric approved by the Committee on Admissions (COA).
- • Specialists are expected to work independently and efficiently, adhering to established timelines while reviewing an average of 8 applications per hour, totaling 12–16 hours per week during the active review period.
- • Maintaining absolute confidentiality is paramount; specialists must not discuss any application content with individuals outside of designated Admissions leadership, ensuring compliance with privacy and ethical standards.
- • The position requires working in a normal office environment (remote setup), primarily involving seated desk work with standard office equipment such as a computer, monitor, and peripherals.
- • This role offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the selection of future physicians while gaining insight into holistic admissions practices in medical education.
- • Specialists will develop and refine skills in detailed file review, objective evaluation using rubrics, time management, and handling sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
