Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Lead the design, build and continuous optimisation of Electric Kiwi’s next-generation AI and analytics platform, turning billions of smart-meter and customer-behaviour data points into real-time insights that directly shape pricing, product and customer-experience decisions across New Zealand.
  • • Own the end-to-end data lifecycle—from ingestion, cleansing and storage through to model training, deployment and monitoring—using cloud-native tools (AWS, Snowflake, dbt) and modern MLOps practices to guarantee accuracy, security and sub-second latency at scale.
  • • Partner daily with Product, Marketing and Trading teams to translate commercial questions into data science experiments; deliver dashboards, predictive models and scenario simulations that unlock new revenue streams and shave millions off wholesale-energy costs.
  • • Architect and productionise machine-learning models that forecast household demand, detect anomalies in solar generation, optimise EV-charging schedules and personalise energy plans for 100k+ customers, all while ensuring fairness, transparency and regulatory compliance.
  • • Champion a culture of experimentation: design A/B tests, champion/challenger frameworks and synthetic-control studies that measure uplift in customer savings, churn reduction and carbon-emission reductions, iterating rapidly based on statistically significant results.
  • • Build and maintain scalable data pipelines (Kafka, Kinesis, Airflow) that ingest smart-meter reads every 30 minutes, IoT sensor streams and weather feeds; implement real-time feature stores that feed both batch and streaming ML workloads with 99.9 % uptime.
  • • Create self-service analytics products—notebooks, APIs and curated datasets—that empower non-technical stakeholders to explore trends, run “what-if” analyses and surface insights without waiting in the engineering queue.
  • • Establish rigorous model governance: version control (Git, MLflow), automated testing, drift detection and explainability layers so regulators, auditors and customers alike can trust every algorithmic decision.
  • • Collaborate with our Hyderabad-based engineering squad in an agile, remote-first environment; run fortnightly showcases, code reviews and lunch-and-learns that upskill the broader team in Python, SQL and cloud analytics best practices.
  • • Influence the strategic roadmap by quantifying the ROI of new data initiatives—whether dynamic time-of-use tariffs, peer-to-peer energy trading or AI-driven customer support—presenting findings to the exec team and securing buy-in for bold bets.
  • • Stay ahead of the curve: evaluate emerging technologies (large-language-model copilots, graph neural networks, real-time carbon-intensity optimisation) and run rapid proof-of-concepts that keep Electric Kiwi at the forefront of energy-tech innovation.
  • • Embed sustainability metrics into every model; track and report on how data-driven decisions reduce national grid peaks, increase renewable-energy utilisation and help New Zealand reach its 100 % renewable electricity target by 2030.
  • • Mentor junior analysts and engineers through pair-programming, design sessions and career-development plans, fostering a diverse, inclusive team where curiosity, kindness and evidence-based thinking are celebrated.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 4+ years production-grade experience building and deploying ML models or large-scale analytics solutions in Python (pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch/TensorFlow) and SQL on cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
  • • Proven track record of turning raw, high-velocity data (ideally energy, IoT or financial markets) into business value—measured through revenue growth, cost savings or customer-experience metrics.
  • • Solid software-engineering discipline: version control (Git), CI/CD, containerisation (Docker), infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/CDK) and automated testing for data pipelines and models.
  • • Nice-to-have: advanced degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics or related quantitative field; experience with dbt, Snowflake, Airflow, Kafka; familiarity with New Zealand electricity market or energy-sector regulations.

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Fully remote-first culture—work from anywhere in NZ or India with a $1,500 home-office setup allowance and annual co-location budget to meet your squad in person.
  • • Competitive salary plus equity in The Energy Collective, so you share directly in the upside of the disruptive businesses you help build.
  • • Five weeks paid leave, birthday leave and two volunteer days each year to support causes you care about.
  • • $2,000 annual professional-development fund for courses, conferences or certifications, plus dedicated 10 % “innovation time” to explore new tools and pet projects.
