• As an AI Engineer, you will be at the forefront of building the core AI workflows that power our innovative products. Your primary responsibility will be to take these workflows from conception to production-grade, scalable, and observable systems. This role is designed for individuals who are passionate problem-solvers, adept at shipping, debugging, and iterating rapidly. You will embrace end-to-end ownership, driving features from initial product requirements through implementation, deployment, continuous monitoring, and iterative improvements. This is a hands-on role where you will see the immediate impact of your work as it hits production quickly, making it an ideal environment for those who thrive on building real systems and delivering tangible results.
• Your day-to-day responsibilities will encompass a broad spectrum of production engineering challenges. You will be instrumental in optimizing for latency and cost through techniques such as caching, batching, streaming, and implementing effective fallback mechanisms. A significant focus will be placed on ensuring robust observability by developing and maintaining comprehensive traces, logs, and metrics, alongside meticulous prompt and version tracking to understand and refine AI behavior. Furthermore, you will be responsible for enhancing the reliability and safety of our AI systems by implementing guardrails, defining refusal behaviors, and enforcing age-appropriate content policies, ensuring our products are both powerful and responsible.
• You will collaborate closely with product and design teams to translate high-level product goals into concrete AI behaviors and functionalities. This collaborative effort ensures that the AI systems we build are not only technically sound but also aligned with user needs and business objectives. You will be expected to take initiative and drive features from rough product requirement documents (PRDs) through the entire development lifecycle. This includes writing APIs, building services using frameworks like FastAPI or Flask, and actively debugging production issues to maintain system integrity and performance. Your work will directly contribute to the success of new ventures incubated by Meraki Labs, providing you with a unique opportunity to influence and shape multiple innovative products.

🎯 Requirements

• 5 to 10 years of strong Python, Java, or Node.js fundamentals, with practical experience using LLMs to generate code and ship features rapidly.
• Proficiency in building services with FastAPI/Flask, writing robust APIs, and effectively debugging production issues.
• Practical understanding of Docker, local development workflows, and fundamental deployment concepts.
• Hands-on experience with at least one of the following LLM frameworks: OpenAI SDK (or similar), LangChain, Haystack, or a comparable framework.
• Demonstrated understanding of the practical differences and applications of prompting, tooling, retrieval, agents, and evals in LLM development.
