- • Join The Ohio State University Libraries' Information Technology team as an Applications Developer, a pivotal role within the Application Development & Operations (AD&O) team. This position is instrumental in ensuring the seamless function, innovative design, robust development, and meticulous maintenance of the University Libraries’ extensive application portfolio, which serves over 60,000 students, faculty, staff, alumni, researchers, and a global network of Buckeyes.
- • As an Applications Developer, you will be at the forefront of creating and enhancing software solutions that empower academic pursuits and administrative functions. Your primary responsibility will be to write clean, efficient, and maintainable code, adhering to best practices and project specifications, to build applications that meet the evolving needs of a dynamic academic community.
- • You will play a crucial role in the entire software development lifecycle, from conceptualization to deployment and ongoing support. This involves close collaboration with the AD&O team and other stakeholders to translate complex user requirements into detailed technical specifications and well-defined system architectures, ensuring that the applications developed are both functional and scalable.
- • This role demands a versatile developer capable of contributing to both front-end and back-end development. You will be tasked with building intuitive user interfaces and robust server-side logic, ensuring optimal performance, responsiveness, and a superior user experience across all applications.
- • A critical aspect of your role will be the development and execution of comprehensive testing plans. This proactive approach is essential for identifying and rectifying bugs, performance bottlenecks, and other issues before applications are deployed to the user base, thereby guaranteeing reliability and user satisfaction.
- • You will be responsible for producing clear, concise, and comprehensive technical documentation throughout all phases of development. This documentation will serve as a vital resource for future maintenance, troubleshooting, and further development, fostering knowledge transfer and continuity within the team.
- • Active participation in code reviews is a key expectation. This collaborative process ensures the highest standards of code quality, promotes adherence to established coding standards, and facilitates knowledge sharing and skill development among team members, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.
- • You will be expected to analyze and resolve complex technical issues that may arise with existing applications. This requires a methodical approach to problem-solving, working collaboratively with team members to implement effective and sustainable solutions that minimize disruption to users.
- • Collaboration extends beyond the immediate development team. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including library staff, IT professionals, and potentially academic departments, to ensure that development cycles are cohesive, effective, and aligned with broader university objectives.
- • Staying abreast of emerging technologies, tools, and industry trends is paramount. You will be encouraged to research and evaluate new methodologies and technologies, integrating them into development processes where appropriate to enhance efficiency, innovation, and the overall quality of the software produced.
- • Proactively identify opportunities to optimize and enhance existing development processes, workflows, and software quality. This includes suggesting and implementing improvements that lead to faster development cycles, more stable applications, and increased team productivity.
- • Provide essential ongoing daily support and incident resolution for University Libraries’ applications. This ensures that users have reliable access to the tools they need for their academic and administrative tasks, maintaining the operational integrity of the Libraries' digital services.
- • This position is dedicated to advancing the culture of University Libraries and the work of the Technology and Digital Programs unit, embodying Ohio State’s Shared Values in all endeavors. All other duties as assigned will contribute to the overall success of the Libraries and the University.
