- • The Applications Engineering Manager at Standard Bots Inc. is a player-coach role responsible for leading a team of Applications Engineers while maintaining hands-on technical involvement in industrial robotics deployments across a defined territory. This role ensures robots are successfully commissioned and integrated at customer sites, from independent machine shops to major aerospace and defense clients, by combining deep technical expertise with leadership to drive quality, consistency, and customer success.
- • Day to day, the manager will lead and develop a team of Applications Engineers through coaching, capacity planning, and performance conversations; serve as the senior technical escalation point for complex installations; partner with Regional Sales Managers on territory strategy; maintain key customer relationships; and remain hands-on by designing solutions, commissioning robotic cells, reviewing integrations, and traveling up to 25% domestically to support critical engagements.

The Applications Engineering team is critical to ensuring robots work reliably in real-world factory environments, and this role sits at the intersection of technical execution, team leadership, and customer success.
- • In this role, the individual will develop leadership and mentoring skills while deepening expertise in industrial automation systems; influence organizational standards through playbook and template creation; gain exposure to high-stakes customer engagements with companies like NASA and Lockheed Martin; and grow into a broader impact role by feeding field learnings back to product and engineering teams to improve future robot designs.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of hands-on applications engineering, systems integration, or automation engineering experience
- • 2+ years of people management or team lead experience
- • Strong customer-facing presence with ability to manage difficult conversations and represent the company credibly
- • Experience managing a distributed team or territory
- • Comfort with up to 25% domestic travel for escalations and key customer engagements
- • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or related engineering discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience
