📋 Description

• Lead technical teams of Applied AI Engineers to deliver complex, production-grade AI solutions for enterprise customers, ensuring successful deployment from pre-sales through post-implementation.
• Act as an individual contributor by writing critical lines of code, reviewing, and optimizing AI systems to de-risk high-complexity projects and maintain technical excellence.
• Design and oversee the implementation of advanced AI systems including fine-tuning of large language models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), agentic workflows, and custom LLM applications aligned with Mistral’s product roadmap.
• Serve as the primary technical point of contact for strategic enterprise customers, translating their business requirements into actionable technical solutions and communicating Mistral’s technological advantages to diverse stakeholders.
• Collaborate closely with research, product, and engineering teams to integrate customer feedback directly into Mistral’s product development cycle and shape the future of AI offerings.
• Drive innovation by evaluating emerging AI tools, methodologies, and trends, and championing best practices in fine-tuning, inference optimization, and deployment pipelines.
• Mentor and guide Applied AI Engineers with technical guidance, code reviews, and best practices for deploying state-of-the-art generative AI applications across industries such as tech, finance, healthcare, and industrial automation.
• Participate in pre-sales technical discussions, demonstrating Mistral’s platform capabilities and architecting scalable AI solutions tailored to enterprise needs on-premises or in cloud environments.
• Ensure all deployed AI systems are robust, scalable, and aligned with Mistral’s open-source initiatives and technological vision.
• Maintain deep hands-on involvement in software engineering tasks including API design, backend and full-stack development, and system architecture for AI-driven applications.
• Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical teams and non-technical executives, ensuring alignment across functions and stakeholders.
• Operate in a low-bureaucracy, high-autonomy environment where the best idea wins regardless of seniority, and urgency is prioritized over process.
• Embrace direct, timely feedback and a low-ego culture focused on outputs, not hours, with a commitment to asking ‘why’ to uncover the deepest understanding of problems.
• Contribute to open-source projects in the LLM or AI space, promoting transparency and community-driven innovation as part of Mistral’s core mission.

🎯 Requirements

• PhD or Master’s degree in AI, Machine Learning, Computer Science, or a related field
• 7–8+ years of experience in AI/ML with at least 2+ years in a technical leadership role (e.g., Tech Lead, Engineering Manager, or Solutions Architect)
• Proven track record of leading teams to deliver complex AI projects from prototyping to production in enterprise settings
• Deep expertise in fine-tuning LLMs, advanced RAG, agentic systems, and deploying NLP applications at scale
• Proficiency in Python, PyTorch, and modern AI frameworks (e.g., LangChain, Hugging Face)
• Strong software engineering skills including API design, backend/full-stack development, and system architecture
