Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Serve as the senior cultural resources authority for Sundance Consultants, a True Environmental company, and steer the growth of our archaeology practice across New Mexico and the greater Southwest. You will own the full project lifecycle—from strategic pursuit and proposal writing through final report delivery—ensuring every investigation meets or exceeds Section 106, Section 110, NEPA, and Tribal consultation standards.
- • Lead multidisciplinary field crews on surveys, monitoring programs, testing, and full-scale data-recovery excavations in some of the most archaeologically rich landscapes in North America. You will mobilize personnel, vehicles, and equipment; manage safety and logistics; and maintain rigorous quality control while keeping projects on schedule and within budget.
- • Act as Principal Investigator and primary author for technical reports, research designs, treatment plans, and agency consultation packages. Your writing will translate complex archaeological findings into clear, defensible documents that satisfy federal, state, and Tribal reviewers and withstand legal scrutiny.
- • Cultivate and sustain relationships with clients, SHPOs, THPOs, land-management agencies, and Tribal governments. You will represent Sundance at public meetings, inter-agency consultations, and regulatory negotiations, positioning our firm as the go-to partner for cultural resources compliance in the Southwest.
- • Mentor junior archaeologists, GIS specialists, architectural historians, and field technicians. Through formal training sessions and daily coaching, you will elevate technical skills, reinforce ethical field methods, and build the next generation of cultural resource leaders.
- • Drive business development by identifying emerging opportunities, preparing winning proposals, and shaping service offerings that anticipate regulatory trends and client needs. Your strategic insight will directly influence revenue growth and market expansion.
- • Integrate cutting-edge technologies—high-resolution GPS, drone photogrammetry, LiDAR, and geospatial databases—into workflows to enhance data accuracy, visualization, and curation while reducing field time and client costs.
- • Oversee artifact processing, laboratory analysis, and curation in compliance with 36 CFR 79 and state repository standards. You will ensure that collections, records, and digital data are archived for long-term access and future research.
- • Champion safety, equity, and ethical stewardship on every project. You will enforce Sundance’s safety protocols, promote inclusive hiring practices, and uphold the highest standards of scientific integrity and cultural sensitivity.
- • Contribute to thought leadership by publishing in peer-reviewed journals, presenting at professional conferences, and participating in regional archaeological societies. Your expertise will enhance Sundance’s reputation and advance the broader discipline.
🎯 Requirements
- • Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related field and current Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) credential
- • Minimum five (5) years of supervisory experience—preferably eight (8)—in progressively responsible cultural resource roles, including demonstrated leadership of field crews in the desert Southwest and Intermountain West
- • Existing eligibility or ability to secure federal and state permits for New Mexico and Arizona; preference for candidates already permitted or permit-eligible in Texas, Utah, Colorado, or Nevada
- • Demonstrated proficiency with GIS data management and collaboration with GIS professionals; advanced technical writing and verbal communication skills essential
- • Valid U.S. driver’s license with clean driving record and ability to pass pre-employment and ongoing drug and alcohol screenings
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary commensurate with experience, plus annual performance bonus tied to project profitability and business development success
- • Flexible remote-first work environment with field rotations that respect work-life balance and provide per-diem and lodging allowances when overnight travel is required
- • Comprehensive health, dental, vision, and life insurance starting day one, plus 401(k) with company match and immediate vesting
- • Annual professional development stipend for conferences, training, certifications, and publication costs to support your continued growth as a leader in cultural resources management
