- • Defend lawsuits filed in California courts involving first-party insurance claims and related litigation matters.
- • Conduct legal research and prepare detailed legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda on liability, damages, and case valuation as requested by the Claims Department.
- • Draft, file, and manage all pleadings, motions, and discovery documents, including depositions, examinations under oath, and pre-trial procedures.
- • Represent GEICO in trials, hearings, and dispositive motion proceedings as assigned, ensuring compliance with procedural and evidentiary rules.
- • Provide legal opinions on coverage, liability, and damages to support claims resolution and litigation strategy.
- • Maintain accurate, clear, and professional case files that are understandable to internal stakeholders including claims professionals and management.
- • Travel as required to attend depositions, court hearings, trials, management meetings, and legal conferences across California.
- • Apply complex legal and procedural knowledge to manage multiple active cases with competing deadlines and priorities.
- • Communicate effectively in person, via telephone, and in written correspondence with clients, co-workers, opposing counsel, and court personnel.
- • Adhere to all California Bar licensing requirements, including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits.
- • Demonstrate strong organizational skills to prioritize tasks, manage workflow, and resolve conflicts efficiently in a high-volume litigation environment.
- • Learn and apply evolving technical and procedural information related to insurance law, court rules, and GEICO’s internal litigation protocols.
- • Collaborate with claims teams to align legal strategy with business objectives and customer service standards.
- • Ensure all legal work is conducted with integrity, professionalism, and in alignment with GEICO’s commitment to innovation and customer protection.
🎯 Requirements
- • 2+ years of litigation experience in insurance defense, personal injury, or related fields
- • Juris Doctor (JD) degree
- • Active admission to the California Bar in good standing
- • Must be licensed to practice law in California and maintain CLE requirements
- • Ability to travel for depositions, trials, and hearings
- • Strong written communication skills for clear, concise, and professional documentation
