- • Defend lawsuits filed in California courts, focusing on first-party insurance defense matters
- • Conduct legal research and prepare detailed legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda to support case strategy
- • Render expert legal opinions on liability, damages, and case value as requested by the Claims Department
- • Prepare, file, and manage all pleadings, motions, and discovery documents, including depositions and examinations under oath
- • Represent GEICO in court proceedings, including trials and dispositive hearings, for assigned cases
- • Coordinate and attend trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences, requiring travel as necessary
- • Maintain clear, concise, and professional documentation of all case files for internal and external stakeholders
- • Apply complex legal procedures and technical insurance law principles to manage a high-volume caseload
- • Prioritize and manage multiple litigation matters simultaneously with strong organizational and time-management skills
- • Communicate effectively with claims professionals, co-workers, clients, and external parties via written correspondence, phone, and in-person meetings
- • Resolve conflicts and facilitate resolution in high-pressure litigation environments
- • Stay current with evolving California state laws, court rules, and mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements
- • Ensure all legal activities comply with California Bar licensing standards and ethical obligations
- • Collaborate with GEICO Staff Counsel teams across Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, and San Francisco
- • Adhere to GEICO’s commitment to innovation, integrity, and customer protection in all legal proceedings
- • Maintain professional communication standards in all interactions, including written, telephonic, and in-person formats
- • Apply strong analytical skills to interpret and apply large volumes of procedural and technical legal information
- • Support GEICO’s mission to exceed customer expectations through diligent and ethical legal representation
