Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Join Sony’s Corporate Information Security Division as an Associate Data Scientist, Risk Analytics and help safeguard one of the world’s most iconic entertainment and technology brands. Reporting to a Data Scientist II, you will be a core member of the team that designs, implements, and maintains the Global Information Security Risk Analytics platform—a mission-critical system that delivers real-time risk intelligence to Senior Leadership and continuously monitors the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Sony’s global assets.
  • • Your day-to-day work will be a blend of deep technical analysis and strategic storytelling. You will collaborate with security engineers, threat hunters, compliance officers, and business stakeholders across six continents to translate complex security challenges into well-defined data science problems. From there, you will dive into petabytes of logs, vulnerability scans, threat feeds, and business context to uncover patterns that others miss.
  • • Build predictive models and machine-learning algorithms that anticipate emerging threats, quantify risk exposure, and recommend proactive controls. You will experiment with supervised and unsupervised techniques—random forests, gradient boosting, anomaly detection, NLP on incident tickets—to turn raw telemetry into actionable insights.
  • • Engineer clean, reliable datasets by writing production-grade Python or R scripts that extract, transform, and load data from relational databases (SQL), RESTful APIs, and streaming sources. You will validate data quality, impute missing values, and apply statistical tests to ensure every insight is defensible.
  • • Automate repetitive security processes—think risk-scoring workflows, alert triage, and compliance evidence collection—freeing analysts to focus on higher-order investigations. Your code will run in cloud-native environments, scheduled via Airflow or similar orchestration tools, and monitored for drift and performance.
  • • Design intuitive visualizations and interactive dashboards in Tableau, Power BI, or open-source libraries to communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences. You will craft narratives that translate ROC curves and lift charts into clear business impact: “This model reduces false positives by 42 %, saving 1,200 analyst hours per quarter.”
  • • Contribute to the team’s knowledge base by documenting methodologies, maintaining version-controlled notebooks, and leading lunch-and-learn sessions. Your commitment to honesty, trustworthiness, and ethical conduct will set the tone for responsible AI and data governance across Sony.
  • • Stay ahead of adversaries by researching the latest threat intelligence, academic papers, and open-source tools. You will prototype new ideas in Jupyter notebooks, evaluate them against labeled datasets, and champion the most promising innovations through internal hackathons and proof-of-concept demos.
  • • Influence strategic decisions at the highest levels of the company. Your analyses will feed directly into the CISO’s quarterly risk reports, budget planning, and board-level briefings, shaping how Sony allocates hundreds of millions of dollars in cybersecurity investments.
  • • Thrive in a culture that celebrates curiosity, diversity, and creativity. Whether you are brainstorming in Reston’s modern tech hub or dialing in from a home office, you will be surrounded by colleagues who share Sony’s purpose to “fill the world with emotion through the power of creativity and technology.”

🎯 Requirements

  • • 1–2 years of hands-on experience in data science, analytics, or a related field (internships, co-ops, Kaggle competitions, or significant academic projects qualify)
  • • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Analysis, or a closely related quantitative discipline
  • • Demonstrated proficiency with SQL for relational database querying and Python or R for scripting and model development
  • • Solid applied statistics foundation—distributions, hypothesis testing, regression, experimental design—and experience translating theory into practice
  • • Hands-on experience with machine-learning libraries (scikit-learn, XGBoost, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or equivalent) and predictive modeling workflows
  • • Nice-to-have: exposure to information security or IT operations; familiarity with SIEM data, vulnerability management feeds, or threat intelligence platforms
  • • Nice-to-have: data engineering skills—ETL pipelines, cloud storage (S3, Azure Data Lake), workflow orchestration (Airflow, Prefect)
  • • Nice-to-have: portfolio of data visualizations or dashboards in Tableau, Power BI, Looker, or open-source alternatives

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Comprehensive medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage for employees, spouses, domestic partners, and children, plus HSA and FSA options
  • • 401(k) Plan with pre-tax, Roth, and after-tax contributions, company match, and immediate vesting
  • • Flexible work arrangements—fully remote, hybrid, or in-office—plus Summer Fridays early release and a winter break between Christmas and New Year’s Day
  • • Paid parental and caregiver leave, fertility and surrogacy assistance, adoption support, and short- & long-term disability plans
  • • Annual base salary of $85,000–$105,000 plus a 7 % target bonus, employee stock purchase plan with zero fees, and referral bonuses
