- • The Associate Director, Principal Gift Development is a key member of both the California philanthropy team and TNC’s Global Principal Gifts team, supporting the US Wealth Markets initiative to raise transformational philanthropy from ultra-high-net-worth individuals for The Nature Conservancy’s highest priorities.
- • Day to day, the role involves building a principal gift-level donor pipeline from scratch through cold prospecting, qualifying and cultivating relationships with prospective donors in California, developing and executing tailored engagement strategies, making direct solicitations for gifts of $5M+, and incorporating blended and non-cash gifts such as assets or planned gifts.
- • The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is a global environmental organization operating in over 70 countries, dedicated to protecting lands and waters, fighting climate change, and addressing biodiversity loss through science-based, on-the-ground solutions, with a mission-driven culture that values collaboration, innovation, and inclusivity.
- • In this role, the individual will develop entrepreneurial fundraising skills, deepen expertise in principal gift strategy and asset-based giving, lead complex matrix collaborations across global and local teams, and achieve measurable impact by securing major gifts that advance TNC’s conservation priorities.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of related experience in fundraising or philanthropy.
- • Proven experience building a principal gift-level donor pipeline from scratch, including cold prospecting at the $5M+ level.
- • Demonstrated success in asking for and closing gifts of $1,000,000 or more, including planned and non-cash gifts.
- • Experience managing multiple prospects simultaneously while maintaining long-term relationships with high-net-worth individuals.
- • Experience collaborating with fundraisers and senior leaders in a complex, matrix organization across multiple business units and teams.
- • Familiarity with current trends in charitable giving, including capital campaigns, major gifts, and planned giving.
