Associate Product Counsel

📋 Description

• • Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, and Design teams to provide legal guidance on B2B AI systems, ensuring alignment between legal requirements and business objectives.
• • Research and advise on regulatory frameworks governing generative AI, including applicable laws related to artificial intelligence, privacy, intellectual property, product liability, marketing, and consumer protection.
• • Collaborate with marketing teams to ensure product communications, claims, and user-facing materials comply with legal and regulatory standards to maintain brand credibility and trust.
• • Support the maturation of the Product Legal function by developing processes, templates, and best practices tailored to high-velocity AI product development.
• • Advise on the legal risks and implications of deploying AI-powered features in enterprise environments, particularly for law firms and professional service organizations.
• • Balance innovation with compliance in ambiguous environments where legal precedents for generative AI are still evolving, exercising sound judgment in the absence of clear guidance.
• • Build communication strategies that resonate with technical teams, translating complex legal concepts into actionable, practical guidance without impeding product velocity.
• • Demonstrate ownership of legal outcomes by proactively identifying potential legal issues before they escalate and proposing risk-mitigated solutions aligned with business goals.
• • Engage directly with customers and internal stakeholders to understand real-world use cases of Harvey’s AI platform and tailor legal advice to actual deployment contexts.
• • Contribute to the growth of the legal team by identifying gaps in capability, recommending training or external resources, and fostering a culture of legal pragmatism in a startup environment.
• • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of global regulatory developments affecting AI, data privacy (including GDPR, CCPA, and emerging frameworks), and technology liability standards.
• • Navigate complex legal questions in fast-moving product cycles, prioritizing issues based on risk, impact, and strategic importance to the company’s growth trajectory.
• • Serve as a trusted legal advisor across all stages of product development — from concept and design through launch and iteration — ensuring compliance is embedded, not bolted on.
• • Advocate for responsible AI development while enabling innovation, helping teams understand where boundaries exist and where creative solutions can be pursued within legal parameters.
• • Participate in cross-departmental initiatives to standardize legal risk assessments for AI features, ensuring consistency and scalability as Harvey expands its product suite and global footprint.
• • Maintain strict confidentiality and data security practices in handling sensitive customer and internal product information, consistent with enterprise legal and compliance expectations.
