You will be an integral part of the Giger team, responsible for building and maintaining one of Deel’s most critical internal platforms. This platform is designed to empower our engineers, enabling them to develop, test, and deploy new features and products at an unprecedented speed. Your contributions will directly impact the efficiency and innovation capabilities of our entire engineering organization.
• • As a key member of the Giger team, you will be instrumental in designing, building, and maintaining the sophisticated control plane that powers hundreds of dynamic developer sandboxes. These sandboxes are fully functional, production-like environments that engineers can spin up in minutes, complete with real databases, services, queues, and storage. Each sandbox is meticulously isolated, providing a safe and flexible space for experimentation, infrastructure change validation, and large-scale code testing.
• • Your responsibilities will extend to developing robust backend tooling and services that automate the entire lifecycle of these sandboxes, from creation and orchestration to ongoing management. This involves creating seamless workflows that abstract away complexity, allowing developers to focus on building great products rather than managing infrastructure.
• • You will be tasked with productizing and delivering infrastructure as a platform, encompassing essential components like databases, caches, object storage, and queueing systems. This means treating infrastructure components as products, ensuring they are reliable, scalable, and easy for internal teams to consume.
• • A significant part of your role will involve scaling and tuning our Kubernetes clusters to efficiently handle volatile workloads. You will gain hands-on experience with advanced Kubernetes scaling and optimization tools such as Karpenter, Vertical Pod Autoscaler (VPA), and Kubernetes Event-Driven Autoscaling (KEDA). This includes fine-tuning policies, right-sizing resources, optimizing pod density, implementing bin-packing strategies, and refining scheduling for diverse, bursty workloads.
• • Cost optimization will be a constant focus. At the scale of our Kubernetes clusters, even minor decisions regarding compute, storage, and data transfer can have a significant impact on overall efficiency. You will be responsible for tracking and optimizing these costs to ensure we operate as leanly and effectively as possible.
• • You will own and evolve the networking setup for our sandboxes, aiming to mirror our production environment while simultaneously enhancing developer experience at scale. This includes managing traffic routing and interception, tuning ingress controllers, and optimizing the serving of assets to ensure fast and reliable access for developers.
• • Implementing and continuously evolving observability within the sandboxes is crucial. You will ensure that our development environments provide comprehensive monitoring, logging, and tracing capabilities, enabling quick identification and resolution of issues.
• • You will partner closely with the Sandboxes SRE team to guarantee the uptime and reliability of hundreds of sandboxes on a daily basis, fostering a collaborative environment to maintain high service levels.
• • A key aspect of your role will be working directly with Deel's broader engineering teams to enhance their developer experience (DevEx). This involves productizing their day-to-day needs into self-service platform capabilities, making it easier for them to build and deploy their applications.
• • You will participate actively in product planning, contributing your expertise from the initial discovery phase all the way through to deployment.
