Backend Developer - Aleno

📋 Description

• • Shape the future of hospitality technology as a Backend Developer at Aleno, the first digital assistant that unites guests and hosts, personal service and AI, hospitality experts and tech innovators. You will join the Marketplace squad, a cross-functional team that owns the integration layer connecting Aleno’s core platform with dozens of external partners – from global CRMs and POS systems to niche channel managers and loyalty engines.
• • Own the full life-cycle of new integrations: start with product discovery sessions alongside Product Managers and Designers, run technical spikes to map edge-cases, design scalable service contracts, implement bullet-proof Node.js services in TypeScript, and finally monitor them in production with CloudWatch dashboards and custom alerts.
• • Architect and evolve a micro-service landscape running on AWS Lambda, Amazon RDS (PostgreSQL) and EventBridge. You will split monoliths, introduce new bounded contexts, and keep latency low while throughput grows – our busiest endpoints serve 2 000+ requests per minute during peak dining hours.
• • Build resilient data pipelines that sync menus, reservations, guest profiles and loyalty points in near-real-time. You will reconcile conflicting updates, guarantee at-least-once delivery, and surface clear error messages to both internal support staff and external API consumers.
• • Champion observability and reliability: add structured logs, distributed tracing, circuit breakers and graceful degradation so that a single partner outage never cascades to the rest of the platform. You will also craft run-books and join a weekly on-call rotation (currently one week in six, fully compensated).
• • Continuously refactor and optimise legacy code paths. Recent wins include cutting average GraphQL query cost by 38 % and reducing Lambda cold-start time by 900 ms through strategic bundling and provisioned concurrency tuning.
• • Collaborate with Customer Success when tricky production issues reach Tier-3 support. You will occasionally jump on a call with a hotel IT manager in Berlin or a restaurant chain CTO in Madrid, turning their pain points into Jira tickets and, ultimately, elegant code.
• • Spread engineering excellence across the squad: run internal tech talks, review pull-requests with empathy, introduce new lint rules, automate dependency updates with Renovate, and mentor junior developers who are eager to level-up their Node.js skills.
• • Work in a truly hybrid setup: one day per week in our modern Wrocław office (ul. Świętego Antoniego) for white-boarding and team lunch, the rest from home or any place with good Wi-Fi. Core collaboration window is 10:00-15:00 CET – outside that block your time is yours to manage.
• • Contribute to open-source when it makes sense. Aleno sponsors two days per quarter for OSS contributions that relate to our stack (e.g. NestJS, Prisma, Serverless Framework). Several Marketplace services already include patches we upstreamed.
