• • As a Backend Engineer, you will be instrumental in building and scaling our robust backend systems. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to exciting projects that directly impact our 40,000+ customers and fuel our continued growth. You will be part of a dynamic, progressive, and kind team of over 850 individuals from more than 100 nationalities, all united by a commitment to delivering the future of business spending.
• • Your primary responsibility will involve designing, building, and maintaining scalable microservices, with a strong emphasis on using Kotlin. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams across various domains, including Platform, Services, SMB, and others, to develop innovative solutions that address complex business needs and enhance our product offerings.
• • A key aspect of this role is ensuring the high reliability and scalability of our systems. You will be tasked with analyzing system performance, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing strategic optimizations. This proactive approach to system health is crucial as Pleo continues its rapid expansion.
• • You will actively participate in code reviews, contributing to a culture of high-quality code and continuous improvement. Engaging in post-mortems will allow you to learn from incidents and implement preventative measures. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to mentor other engineers, sharing your expertise and helping to upskill the team, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.
• • Addressing technical debt is a significant part of this role. You will proactively identify areas for improvement, guide the team through technical challenges, and lead migrations to ensure our technology stack remains modern, efficient, and maintainable. Your insights will be invaluable in navigating the complexities of a growing scale-up.
• • You will work under the guidance of our Engineering Manager and collaborate extensively with product teams. While the specific team assignment will be determined later, your work will contribute to critical areas such as Credit, Platform, Partnerships, and SMB. This cross-functional collaboration is key to our success in building world-class solutions.
• • In your first six months, you are expected to take the lead on backend initiatives aimed at enhancing system performance and scalability. You will actively contribute to driving innovation within both product development and infrastructure. This period will also focus on deepening your expertise in Kotlin and distributed systems, while simultaneously mentoring junior engineers and contributing to the overall technical direction of Pleo.
