Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Architect and scale the core services that power HousingAnywhere’s global rental marketplace, serving millions of property seekers and thousands of landlords every month. You will own the design, development, and continuous improvement of high-traffic APIs, data pipelines, and background jobs that keep the platform fast, reliable, and secure.
- • Write clean, testable, and maintainable code in Go (primary) and occasionally Node.js or Python, following SOLID principles and domain-driven design. You will introduce new patterns, refactor legacy modules, and champion engineering standards across the backend chapter.
- • Collaborate daily with cross-functional squads that include product managers, frontend engineers, data analysts, and UX designers. You will translate business requirements into technical epics, break them into user stories, and deliver incremental value every sprint.
- • Own the full development lifecycle—from local prototyping and automated testing to staging deployments and production releases. You will monitor service health with Prometheus, Grafana, and Sentry, respond to alerts, and conduct blameless post-mortems to prevent recurrence.
- • Optimize performance and cost at scale. You will profile databases (PostgreSQL, Redis, Elasticsearch), tune queries, introduce caching layers, and leverage AWS managed services (RDS, SQS, Lambda, ECS) to keep latency under 100 ms p95 while controlling cloud spend.
- • Build resilient integrations with third-party partners such as payment gateways, identity verification providers, and property-management systems. You will design idempotent webhooks, implement retry logic with exponential backoff, and ensure GDPR-compliant data handling.
- • Lead technical discussions in guilds and brown-bag sessions, mentor junior engineers through pair programming and code reviews, and contribute to our internal knowledge base. Your guidance will raise the bar for code quality and foster a culture of continuous learning.
- • Drive experimentation and data-driven decisions. You will instrument feature flags, run A/B tests, and work with analysts to interpret results, iterating quickly to improve conversion rates, fraud detection accuracy, and user trust.
- • Champion security best practices. You will conduct threat modeling, enforce least-privilege IAM policies, rotate secrets automatically, and stay ahead of OWASP Top 10 risks to protect sensitive renter and landlord data.
- • Participate in on-call rotations with a follow-the-sun model, ensuring 24/7 platform availability. You will automate repetitive operational tasks, write runbooks, and reduce alert fatigue through self-healing systems.
- • Contribute to open-source projects and tech-community events that strengthen HousingAnywhere’s reputation as an engineering-first company. Your thought leadership will help attract top talent and shape industry standards.
🎯 Requirements
- • 3+ years of backend development experience in Go, Java, or similar statically typed languages, including production experience with RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs.
- • Proven track record designing and operating distributed systems on AWS or GCP, leveraging containers, message queues, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
- • Solid understanding of relational databases (PostgreSQL or MySQL) and NoSQL stores (Redis, DynamoDB), including schema design, indexing, and performance tuning.
- • Experience with automated testing (unit, integration, contract) and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, CircleCI, or similar) to ship code confidently multiple times per day.
- • Nice-to-have: familiarity with event-driven architecture, Kafka or RabbitMQ, and domain-driven design patterns; contributions to open-source Go projects.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Fully remote-first culture with flexible working hours and a €2,000 home-office stipend so you can build the perfect workspace anywhere in the world.
- • Annual personal development budget of €3,500 for conferences, courses, books, or coaching to keep your skills sharp and your career trajectory steep.
- • 25 vacation days plus local public holidays, and an additional paid sabbatical month after every three years of service to recharge and explore.
- • Stock-option plan that turns your impact into ownership, aligning your success with HousingAnywhere’s long-term growth.
