- • As a Backend Engineer at Sportygroup B.V., you will play a critical role in building and maintaining the core infrastructure that powers a global sporting platform used by millions of users daily. Your work will directly impact system stability, scalability, and performance, ensuring seamless experiences for sports enthusiasts around the world.
- • You will develop highly-scalable microservices using Java 17 and Spring Boot, contributing to a modern, cloud-native architecture built from scratch just three years ago—free from legacy constraints and focused on innovation, resilience, and high-throughput transactional systems.
- • Day to day, you will design and implement RESTful APIs and event-driven components using message queues like RocketMQ, optimize database interactions with MySQL, MongoDB, and MyBatis, and leverage caching layers such as Redis and ElasticSearch to enhance response times and system efficiency.
- • You will collaborate closely with Product Managers and fellow engineers to translate user stories into technical specifications, participate in agile ceremonies including sprint planning, grooming, demos, and retrospectives, and engage in peer code reviews to uphold code quality and architectural consistency.
- • A key part of your role will involve responding to production support incidents, diagnosing issues rapidly, and implementing fixes to maintain 24/7 system availability—directly contributing to the platform’s reputation for robustness and reliability.
- • You will mentor junior team members, sharing best practices in object-oriented design, cloud-native development, and testing strategies, helping to elevate the overall technical maturity of the team.
- • The engineering team at Sportygroup operates with a remote-first mindset, emphasizing autonomy, clear communication, and continuous learning, all while maintaining strong alignment through structured collaboration and shared ownership of system health.
- • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in distributed systems, gain hands-on experience with AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes, and become proficient in observability tools like Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, and Tempo—positioning you at the forefront of modern backend engineering practices.
🎯 Requirements
- • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in backend development, with strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot/Spring Cloud ecosystems.
- • Proven experience designing and maintaining highly transactional, scalable microservices architectures using Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS.
- • Solid understanding of relational and NoSQL databases (MySQL, MongoDB), caching (Redis), and message queuing systems (RocketMQ or similar).
