📋 Description

• As a Backend Engineer at Wordly Inc., you will play a critical role in building and improving backend services that power real-time translation experiences for users across the globe, enabling seamless communication in 50+ languages during virtual meetings, conferences, and in-person events.
• You will contribute directly to the reliability, scalability, and performance of Wordly’s platform by implementing features from product requirements, maintaining existing systems, and ensuring high-quality, well-tested code in a fully remote, collaborative environment.
• Your day-to-day responsibilities will include designing, developing, and maintaining backend services and APIs using Java or Kotlin with frameworks like Micronaut or Spring Boot, integrating with distributed systems, messaging queues, event streaming platforms, NoSQL databases, and distributed caches.
• You will write and maintain comprehensive unit and integration tests to improve test coverage and code quality, actively participate in code reviews, and help enforce best practices for clean, maintainable, and testable code across the engineering team.
• You will debug and resolve issues in existing backend services, work cross-functionally with Product, frontend engineers, and technical leads to translate requirements into robust technical solutions, and contribute to continuous improvement of CI/CD pipelines and development workflows.
• You will leverage AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code responsibly to enhance productivity while maintaining code integrity and adhering to engineering standards.
• You will operate within a modern software development lifecycle, using version control (e.g., Git), participating in agile workflows, and contributing to a culture of technical excellence and knowledge sharing in a fully remote setting.

🎯 Requirements

• 3+ years of hands-on experience building and maintaining backend services and APIs from product requirements
• Strong hands-on experience with Java or Kotlin; experience with both is a plus
• Experience working in distributed systems and microservice environments
• Experience with backend frameworks such as Micronaut, Spring Boot, or similar
• Experience with messaging and event streaming systems, NoSQL databases, distributed caches, and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience writing and maintaining unit and integration tests
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Code) effectively and responsibly
• Comfortable working in a fully remote team and self-motivated to implement features independently from clear requirements
