Full Job Description
📋 Description
- • Scale PostHog’s billing infrastructure to support $100M+ revenue by end of 2026 and beyond, ensuring accuracy and reliability as usage-based pricing expands.
- • Design and implement flexible billing primitives that allow new pricing models (e.g., seat-based, credit pools, subscription add-ons) to be launched without rearchitecting core systems.
- • Build near-realtime usage reporting and limiting systems to ensure customers are billed accurately based on actual product consumption.
- • Transform raw invoice and usage data into actionable internal reports, financial forecasts, and compliant accounting records for execs, finance, and investors.
- • Lead the migration to a ledger-based revenue model and rebuild all dashboards and investor reports on top of the new system.
- • Make billing the single source of truth for pricing, subscriptions, invoicing, and revenue recognition across all product teams.
- • Ship 5+ pricing launches and changes per quarter, including entirely new pricing models, with minimal disruption to existing customers or systems.
- • Optimize data pipelines, task queues, and workflow orchestration by transitioning from Celery to Temporal and Dagster for improved reliability and scalability.
- • Treat error handling, rollbacks, and retries as core responsibilities—not afterthoughts—given that billing errors directly impact customer trust and revenue.
- • Automate manual processes; if a task is done twice or observed being repeated, build an internal tool or automation to eliminate it.
- • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, finance, GTM, marketing, and customer success teams to align billing logic with business needs and customer expectations.
- • Ensure all billing systems are modular, observable, and maintainable to support rapid iteration without introducing financial or operational risk.
- • Maintain high standards for data integrity: every dollar PostHog earns flows through your systems, and inaccuracies directly cause churn and compliance risk.
- • Work on ambiguous problems where requirements evolve rapidly; you define the path forward without needing fully specified requirements.
- • Embrace edge cases as central to the work—billing systems fail in unexpected ways, and your job is to anticipate and handle them.
- • Contribute to a product-led company where billing is not a back-office function but a core enabler of growth, product experimentation, and customer trust.
🎯 Requirements
- • Strong backend engineering skills with Python and SQL
- • Experience with complex data modeling and data pipelines
- • Proven experience with task queues and workflow orchestration (e.g., Celery, Temporal, Dagster)
- • Ability to own ambiguous problems and ship solutions without detailed requirements
- • Deep understanding of error handling, rollbacks, and retries as core system components
- • Demonstrated initiative through leading major projects, starting a company, or shipping impressive side projects
🏖️ Benefits
- • Remote-first work with global team
- • Well-funded company with over $100M raised from top investors
- • Revenue growing 10% MoM on average with efficient operations
- • Opportunity to build billing infrastructure for a product-led company scaling to $100M+ revenue
- • Collaborative culture that values weirdness and autonomy
- • Work directly with product, finance, GTM, and customer success teams to impact company-wide outcomes

About PostHog Inc.
PostHog provides an open-source product analytics platform that lets teams track user behavior, run A/B tests, and gather feedback without sending data to third parties. The self-hosted or cloud service captures events, pageviews, feature flags, and session recordings, then surfaces insights through dashboards, funnels, retention, and cohort analysis. Engineers can instrument code once and non-technical teammates can query results using SQL or visual builders. The company maintains the core project under an MIT license and offers paid tiers for enterprise support, higher volumes, and advanced features such as correlation analysis, data pipelines, and team collaboration tools.
