📋 Description

• As a Backend Engineer (Contract - LATAM) at Nexus Mutual, you will play a critical role in building the foundational infrastructure for Nexus’s Layer 1 blockchain and its native decentralized exchange (DEX), enabling verifiable finance through secure, scalable, and transparent backend systems that power trading, settlement, and financial data integrity across global markets.
• Your work will directly contribute to unifying fragmented financial infrastructure into a single compounding system, supporting Nexus’s mission to become the engine for verifiable finance by ensuring reliability, performance, and transparency at scale for users and partners worldwide.
• Day to day, you will design and build backend services using Node.js and Rust to support core Layer 1 functionality and DEX operations, focusing on high-throughput, low-latency systems that handle financial transactions with cryptographic guarantees.
• You will develop and maintain APIs and data pipelines for trading, liquidity provision, and on-chain verification, ensuring seamless data flow between blockchain nodes, indexing services, and frontend applications consumed by traders and institutional partners.
• You will build and maintain blockchain infrastructure components including RPC endpoints, block explorers, and developer tooling, enabling internal teams and external developers to interact reliably with the Nexus network.
• You will write clean, well-tested, production-grade code with strong emphasis on correctness, performance, and observability, implementing unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to ensure system resilience under load.
• You will collaborate closely with protocol engineers, product managers, and frontend teams based in San Francisco, participating in async standups, design reviews, and cross-functional planning to align backend capabilities with product roadmaps and protocol upgrades.
• You will contribute to architectural decisions around data storage, indexing strategies, and service mesh patterns, helping evolve the backend stack to support increasing transaction volumes and new financial primitives.
• You will engage in code reviews, knowledge sharing sessions, and technical documentation efforts to uphold engineering excellence and foster a culture of learning within the distributed LATAM and global engineering team.
• You will help shape engineering practices and standards as Nexus scales its LATAM presence, bringing backend expertise to influence hiring, tooling, and process improvements in a fast-moving, high-impact environment.

🎯 Requirements

• 2-4 years of experience working with backend services in production environments
• Proficiency in Node.js, Rust, Python, Go, or similar languages for building scalable backend systems
• Experience with PostgreSQL, Prisma, or equivalent relational data stores and ORMs
• Strong understanding of API design (REST/GraphQL), authentication (OAuth, JWT), and performance optimization techniques
• Excellent communication skills in Business English, both spoken and written, for effective collaboration across time zones
