📋 Description

• As a Backend Engineer specializing in database systems at Adaptive ML SAS, you will play a critical role in building and scaling the data infrastructure that powers our Reinforcement Learning Operations (RLOps) platform, enabling enterprises to deploy and optimize large language models (LLMs) in production with measurable impact on performance and cost.
• You will own the design, implementation, and operation of high-availability PostgreSQL systems and ClickHouse analytics pipelines, ensuring reliability, scalability, and correctness under heavy transactional and analytical workloads — directly supporting product features used by enterprise customers like Manulife, AT&T, and Deloitte.
• Working within a tight-knit, ambitious team of engineers who previously contributed to state-of-the-art open-access LLMs, you’ll collaborate closely with frontend, product, and technical teams to translate cutting-edge AI research into robust, user-centric products.
• Your day-to-day responsibilities will include designing and iterating on the backend data layer, architecting PostgreSQL systems for high throughput and fault tolerance, building and maintaining ClickHouse pipelines for large-scale event data, developing performance-critical Rust software, defining data modeling and schema evolution processes, contributing to product roadmap alignment, and communicating progress through clear, asynchronous written updates.
• You will gain deep expertise in modern data infrastructure for AI systems, shape the foundational architecture of a fast-growing startup, and have the opportunity to influence both technical direction and team culture as we scale — all while working on technology that serves millions of requests in real-world production environments.

🎯 Requirements

• Significant experience in backend or infrastructure software development
• Deep, hands-on expertise with PostgreSQL at scale, including replication, failover, connection pooling, query optimization, and schema design under high transactional load
• Production experience with ClickHouse, including ingestion pipelines, data modeling for analytical workloads, and performance tuning at scale
• Strong software engineering skills with a focus on robustness and performance, particularly in Rust
• A track record of shipping ambitious technical products under tight deadlines
• Experience with observability tooling such as Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry is a plus
