- • As a Backend Engineer III, you will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and maintaining the robust and scalable systems that power Monzo's award-winning banking platform. You'll be an integral part of a dynamic squad, collaborating closely with a diverse group of professionals including product managers, marketers, user researchers, designers, mobile and web engineers, data analysts, business analysts, and writers.
- • Your primary focus will be on developing and supporting a specific area of Monzo's ecosystem. These squads operate within larger collectives, which are self-governing business units of approximately 100 people. These collectives include Core Banking, Business Banking, Wealth, Borrowing, Growth, Payments, Platform, Fincrime, Security & Expansion, offering a wide array of opportunities to make a significant impact.
- • You will have the chance to work on cutting-edge projects, many of which leverage machine learning and AI to combat financial crime, build smarter financial tools, and enhance customer experiences. The specific collective you join will be determined by aligning your skills, experience, and preferences with business needs, ensuring a role where you can thrive and contribute meaningfully.
- • Monzo's backend engineers come from a variety of backgrounds. We value a passion for learning and continuous improvement, and we do not require formal qualifications or specific degree requirements for our engineering roles. If you are eager to learn new technologies and contribute to a fast-paced, innovative environment, we want to hear from you.
- • Our technology stack is modern and efficient, primarily utilizing Go for application code, Cassandra for persistent data storage, Kafka for asynchronous messaging, and Kubernetes and Docker for service orchestration. We also employ Envoy Proxy for RPC and leverage AWS for production infrastructure and GCP for data infrastructure. While we use these technologies, we do not expect prior knowledge; comprehensive onboarding and support will be provided to get you up to speed.
- • You will be instrumental in building and enhancing features that directly impact millions of users, from core banking functionalities to innovative new products. This involves writing clean, resilient, and maintainable code, participating in code reviews, and contributing to architectural discussions.
- • We foster a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing. You'll be encouraged to contribute to open-source software, share your learnings through our engineering blog, and participate in technical discussions and brown bag sessions.
- • As a Backend Engineer III, you will be expected to take ownership of your work, drive technical initiatives, and mentor junior engineers. You will contribute to the continuous improvement of our development processes, tooling, and infrastructure, ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of our banking platform.
