- • Join Bestow Inc. as a Backend Software Engineer II, a pivotal role within our dynamic Engineering team, specifically contributing to the Origination Group. In this position, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of digital life insurance enrollment by developing and supporting robust backend solutions. You will collaborate closely with Product Managers, Underwriters, and external partners to craft and enhance the systems that power our user-facing experiences, ensuring a seamless and efficient enrollment process for our customers.
- • Your primary focus will be on developing sophisticated web services utilizing Python as the core programming language, complemented by PostgreSQL for data management. You will also engage with Java and Drools Rule Language as needed, contributing to a diverse and powerful technology stack. This role offers a unique opportunity to work within a fast-paced startup environment, where your contributions will directly impact the scaling and evolution of our platform to meet the demands of a growing business and an increasing number of strategic partners.
- • As a remote-first organization, effective written communication and proficiency in teleconferencing are paramount. You will be expected to articulate technical concepts clearly, provide constructive feedback, and actively participate in team discussions and planning sessions, regardless of physical location. This role is designed for individuals who thrive in collaborative, distributed teams and are adept at leveraging technology to bridge geographical distances.
- • You will play a key role in building new platform capabilities that are designed for scalability and resilience. This involves not only writing clean, efficient code but also understanding the broader architectural implications of your work. You will contribute to the design and implementation of microservices, ensuring they are well-integrated, performant, and maintainable.
- • A significant aspect of this role involves ensuring the quality and reliability of the services you develop. This includes writing comprehensive automated tests to validate functionality, prevent regressions, and ensure the stability of our production systems. You will also be responsible for ensuring that features are observable, with robust monitoring and alerting in place to quickly detect and address any potential issues.
- • Collaboration is at the heart of our engineering culture. You will work hand-in-hand with product managers to translate business requirements into technical solutions, with designers to ensure a cohesive user experience, and with customer support associates to understand real-world user challenges. Your ability to provide and receive thoughtful, respectful feedback will be crucial in fostering a high-performing and supportive team environment.
- • You will gain hands-on experience with modern cloud infrastructure, specifically Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Kubernetes. This includes contributing to the deployment, operation, and troubleshooting of our services within this environment. Understanding and applying principles of scalable system architectures, such as load balancing and horizontal scaling, will be essential for success.
- • The Origination Group's services are built using a combination of Python and Java, communicating through gRPC, REST, and asynchronous messaging patterns. You will contribute to the ongoing development and maintenance of these services, ensuring they meet performance, security, and reliability standards.
- • This role offers a chance to be part of an industry-changing company that is modernizing a centuries-old sector. You will be contributing to a platform that enables life insurance carriers to launch products faster, reach more people, and operate with unprecedented speed, powered by AI and automation. Your work will have a tangible impact on the accessibility and efficiency of life insurance for millions.
- • You will be encouraged to proactively identify problems and opportunities, proposing innovative solutions that enhance our platform and processes. This includes staying abreast of new technologies and best practices in backend development and cloud computing, and advocating for their adoption where appropriate.
- • Taking ownership of your work and the services you provide is a core expectation. This means seeing tasks through from conception to deployment and beyond, ensuring they meet the highest standards of quality and reliability. You will be empowered to make decisions and drive initiatives forward, contributing to the overall success of the engineering team and Bestow Inc.
- • You will be involved in the entire software development lifecycle, from initial design and development to deployment, monitoring, and ongoing maintenance. This holistic approach ensures a deep understanding of the systems you work on and fosters a sense of accountability for their performance and stability.
- • The role requires a proactive mindset, a commitment to continuous learning, and a passion for building high-quality software that solves real-world problems. You will be joining a team that values collaboration, innovation, and a shared mission to transform the life insurance industry.
