- • As a Business Development Underwriter for ICW Group Insurance Companies, you will play a pivotal role in driving profitable growth by building and managing relationships with insurance producers and agencies across Eastern Pennsylvania. This position is essential to expanding the company’s market presence through strategic underwriting, new business development, and producer support—directly contributing to ICW Group’s mission of delivering the best insurance experience while maintaining a profitable book of business.
- • On a day-to-day basis, you will sell, service, and maintain a productive producer force capable of generating and controlling profitable business; monitor producer performance and quality to ensure alignment with company goals; drive profitable sales of existing and new products by leveraging underwriting authority to price risks appropriately; develop producer groups through coaching and training to improve both the quality and volume of business sourced; and stay current on industry changes such as WCIRB/NCCI rulings, policy forms, and coverage updates to ensure compliant and competitive underwriting decisions.
- • You will actively prospect and prequalify new producers, appoint high-quality agents, set and monitor production expectations, and conduct in-depth market research to identify opportunities for product enhancement, new distribution channels, and geographic expansion; utilize your underwriting expertise to accept or reject simple to moderately complex risks by evaluating operations, financials, management, loss history, and other risk characteristics against class averages and underwriting guidelines to ensure profitability.
- • You will deliver superior customer service by providing production support through agency visits and participation in underwriting presentations; offering personalized assistance to agents and insureds via regular office visits; maintaining consistent communication using company technology; promptly communicating underwriting decisions and resolving concerns; presenting agency management solutions to principals and internal management; and serving as the primary liaison between ICW Group and both existing and prospective producers.

- • In this role, you will develop deep expertise in commercial underwriting, producer relationship management, and regional market analysis; strengthen your ability to balance risk and profitability through data-informed decision-making; enhance your sales, negotiation, and consulting skills; and gain exposure to strategic initiatives that shape product development and distribution strategy—positioning you for long-term career advancement within ICW Group’s underwriting, sales, or management tracks.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Business, Accounting, Statistics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- • Minimum of 1 year of related experience in underwriting, sales, producer relations, or a similar insurance or financial services role.
- • Current and valid driver’s license required due to regular travel obligations (50%-75% of time) to meet with producers, attend events, and develop business opportunities.
- • Demonstrated ability to service clients and maintain strong relationships with production sources, including producers and agencies.
- • Ability to apply fundamental underwriting concepts, practices, and procedures to evaluate risk and price policies within company guidelines.
- • Ability to read and interpret insurance submissions, loss control reports, and standard policy forms or endorsements.
