Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the end-to-end BI lifecycle at Skillshare, from raw data in our warehouse to the polished dashboards that executives rely on every Monday morning. You will be the single source of truth for “what happened last week,” “why it happened,” and “what we should do next.”
- • Design, build, and maintain executive-level KPI dashboards in Looker that surface acquisition, activation, retention, revenue, and engagement metrics across web, mobile, and email. These dashboards must load in <3 seconds, refresh automatically, and include clear definitions that anyone in the company can understand.
- • Write advanced, performant SQL (heavy use of window functions, CTEs, conditional aggregates, and complex joins across 500M+ row tables) to answer urgent ad-hoc questions from Marketing, Finance, and Product within hours, not days.
- • Establish and document a canonical metric catalog—e.g., “Active Subscriber,” “Trial-to-Paid Conversion,” “LTV/CAC by Channel”—so that every team speaks the same language and no meeting devolves into “whose number is right?”
- • Partner daily with Marketing to attribute every dollar of spend to downstream revenue using first-touch, last-touch, and multi-touch models; surface under-performing channels and recommend budget reallocation in real time.
- • Run weekly “data office hours” where stakeholders bring gnarly questions—churn spikes, coupon abuse, course completion drops—and leave with a crisp SQL snippet, a Looker explore, and a recommended experiment.
- • Collaborate with Data Engineering to trace data lineage in our dbt project, flag schema drift or test failures, and prioritize modeling improvements without ever needing to own the warehouse infrastructure.
- • Build lightweight, version-controlled analytics workflows (Git + CI) that include peer review, automated data tests, and clear READMEs so future analysts can ramp up in days, not weeks.
- • Translate complex findings into concise, visually compelling narratives for the CEO, CMO, and Board—often under tight deadlines—using a mix of Looker dashboards, Google Slides, and the occasional Figma mock-up.
- • Champion a culture of experimentation by designing A/B test read-outs that go beyond “test won” to explain “why it won” and “how big the prize is if we roll it out globally.”
- • Continuously scan the business for high-impact analytical opportunities: new pricing tiers, international expansion cohorts, teacher revenue share optimizations—then size the upside and pitch a sprint plan.
- • Lay the groundwork for a future BI team: create onboarding checklists, style guides, and code snippets that will allow Skillshare to double analyst headcount without doubling confusion.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5–7 years of hands-on analytics/BI experience, including expert-level SQL and daily use of Looker (Tableau or Power BI acceptable as secondary tools)
- • Proven track record influencing executive decisions through clear, data-driven storytelling
- • Deep understanding of marketing attribution models (first-touch, last-touch, multi-touch) and funnel analytics
- • Startup mindset: comfortable as a team-of-one, resourceful, biased toward high-leverage work
- • Nice-to-have: familiarity with dbt (models, tests, docs, snapshots), Git-based analytics workflows, and dimensional modeling
🏖️ Benefits
- • Unlimited PTO with a required minimum to ensure real rest and recharge
- • Gender-neutral parental leave and anniversary sabbaticals
- • Home-office stipend and co-working space access in multiple cities
- • Healthy stipends for creativity, learning, and personal wellness
