📋 Description

• The Business Operations Associate at FAR.AI supports the Business Operations Manager and works closely with the COO and organizational leaders to ensure smooth daily operations across finance, HR, compliance, IT, and special projects. This role is critical as FAR.AI scales from 45 to 75+ staff by year-end, requiring a dependable generalist to own recurring operational work and prevent bottlenecks.
• Day-to-day responsibilities include owning operational tickets and triaging requests, maintaining the compliance calendar for federal, state, and local filings, providing initial IT support and coordinating equipment provisioning, supporting HR onboarding/offboarding and policy maintenance, assisting with FAR.Labs coworking space logistics, and taking on ad hoc special projects such as vendor coordination and process improvement.
• FAR.AI is a non-profit AI research institute founded in July 2022, dedicated to ensuring advanced AI is safe and beneficial through machine learning, safety research, and policy work. The organization has grown to 40+ staff, published 30+ influential academic papers, and leads AI safety events and initiatives, including red-teaming with frontier model developers and operating FAR.Labs in Berkeley.
• In this role, you will develop broad operational expertise across finance, HR, compliance, IT, and facilities while contributing to a high-impact mission-driven organization. You’ll gain hands-on experience in scaling operations, learn to navigate ambiguity, and have real room to grow as the operations function is being built from the ground up.

🎯 Requirements

• Evidence of real results in past roles – delivering outcomes or solving problems while managing multiple responsibilities
• Comfort working across multiple operational domains simultaneously: finance, HR, compliance, IT, and projects, with ability to learn quickly
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including clear email writing and accurate situation summarization
• Reliability with details, especially in compliance and finance tasks, with proactive issue flagging
• Demonstrated service mindset – deriving energy from helping others succeed, regardless of task size
