- • The Certified Coder (Remote) - Neurology role at Washington University in St. Louis is responsible for reviewing medical record documentation to determine appropriate billing codes and ensure accurate reimbursement for neurology services, playing a critical role in the financial integrity and compliance of clinical operations.
- • Day-to-day duties include reviewing patient records to identify pertinent facts for diagnosis and procedure coding, assigning CPT and ICD-9/ICD-10 codes, meeting with physicians to resolve documentation issues and secure signatures, assisting other coders with medical terminology and policy interpretation, preparing case reports, and initiating follow-up for billing processes.
- • The role is part of Washington University in St. Louis’s Health Information Management team within the neurology department, supporting accurate clinical documentation and billing practices across a leading academic medical center committed to excellence in patient care, research, and education.
- • In this position, the individual will develop expertise in neurology-specific coding standards, enhance collaboration with clinical staff, gain experience in medical terminology and regulatory compliance, and contribute to process improvements that support accurate revenue cycle management and physician education initiatives.
🎯 Requirements
- • Must hold one of the following coding credentials: AHIMA (CCA, CCS, or CCS-P) or AAPC (CPC, CPC-A, CPC-H, CPC-H-A, or an AAPC specialty-specific coding credential valid for the neurology department).
- • Previous coding experience or experience equivalent to an associate’s degree in a related field is preferred.
- • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding systems is preferred.
