  • • Lead the strategic vision and execution of all People functions at The Trevor Project, aligning HR, talent, culture, and organizational development with the mission to end suicide among LGBTQ+ young people.
  • • Oversee the full lifecycle of talent acquisition, including recruitment, onboarding, retention, and succession planning for a mission-driven, nationwide team.
  • • Design and implement scalable HR systems and policies that support a high-performing, inclusive, and psychologically safe workplace for staff across remote and hybrid environments.
  • • Partner with executive leadership to build organizational resilience through workforce planning, change management, and leadership development programs.
  • • Champion diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) as core operational priorities, ensuring all people practices reflect the values of the LGBTQ+ communities served.
  • • Develop and manage compensation, benefits, and total rewards strategies that are competitive, equitable, and aligned with nonprofit sector standards and organizational sustainability goals.
  • • Drive employee engagement, performance management, and feedback systems that foster accountability, growth, and alignment with The Trevor Project’s core values: Heart, Integrity, Community, Belonging, and Progress.
  • • Serve as the primary advisor to the CEO and senior leadership on organizational culture, employee relations, conflict resolution, and compliance with labor laws and nonprofit governance standards.
  • • Build and lead a high-caliber People team, empowering managers to become effective people leaders through coaching, training, and resource development.
  • • Collaborate with program and fundraising teams to integrate People strategy with organizational growth, revenue expansion, and institutional training initiatives.
  • • Ensure all HR operations comply with federal and state employment regulations while maintaining the highest ethical standards in data privacy and employee confidentiality.
  • • Leverage data-informed insights to measure HR impact, track workforce trends, and recommend evidence-based improvements to talent and culture initiatives.
  • • Represent The Trevor Project externally as a thought leader in nonprofit HR innovation, particularly in scaling mission-driven organizations and supporting diverse, remote workforces.
  • • Act as a steward of organizational culture, modeling the organization’s values in all interactions and ensuring that every employee feels seen, supported, and empowered to contribute to the mission.
  • • Partner with external recruiting partner On-Ramps to manage the executive search process for this role and ensure alignment with organizational priorities.
  • • Maintain a deep understanding of the unique needs of LGBTQ+ youth and the broader social justice context in which The Trevor Project operates, ensuring HR practices are culturally competent and trauma-informed.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Proven experience as a Chief People Officer, Head of HR, or equivalent senior HR leadership role in a mission-driven nonprofit or scaling organization
  • • Demonstrated success building and leading high-performing HR teams and implementing scalable HR systems in remote-first environments
  • • Deep expertise in DEIB strategy, employee engagement, talent acquisition, and organizational development
  • • Strong understanding of nonprofit sector labor practices, compensation benchmarks, and compliance requirements
