📋 Description

  • The Clinical Documentation Auditor/Educator plays a critical role in enhancing the quality, completeness, and accuracy of medical record documentation across Memorial Hermann Health System’s acute care facilities, directly supporting improved patient outcomes, coding integrity, and compliance through audit, education, and data-driven insights.
  • Day-to-day responsibilities include auditing case reviews and queries of Clinical Documentation Specialists (CDIS), tracking and reporting audit findings at individual, regional, and system-wide levels, identifying knowledge gaps, and providing targeted education to physicians and CDIS staff to strengthen documentation practices and ensure accurate reflection of illness severity and mortality risk.
  • The role involves researching and staying current with clinical and coding guidelines from quarterly Coding Clinics, assisting with large retrospective audits upon request from hospital clients, developing and updating audit tools and policies, and serving as a mentor and resource to less experienced staff while promoting professional growth and adherence to organizational standards.
  • As an individual contributor reporting to the CDI Quality/Education Manager, the incumbent collaborates with leadership to conduct post-discharge documentation and coding audits, contributes to departmental goals, and models Memorial Hermann’s service standards by delivering safe, compassionate, personalized, and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.
  • This position offers the opportunity to drive systemic improvements in clinical documentation integrity, influence provider education, and advance expertise in CDI, coding compliance, and healthcare quality initiatives within a leading Texas health system.

🎯 Requirements

  • Bachelor’s of Nursing degree required; Master’s Degree in Nursing or Management preferred
  • Current State of Texas nursing license or temporary/compact license to practice professional nursing
  • One of the following certifications required: CCDS (ACDIS), CDIP (AHIMA), or CCS (AHIMA)
  • Three (3) years of Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) experience required
  • Strong computer proficiency including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and 3M Coding and Reimbursement software; experience with Epic EMR preferred
  • Excellent communication, analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and detail-oriented skills; highly self-motivated with ability to work independently and as a team player
