- • The Clinical Documentation Specialist I role is critical to ensuring accurate and compliant clinical documentation that supports proper coding, billing, and reimbursement within the Cleveland Clinic Health System. This position directly impacts revenue integrity and quality reporting by aligning documentation with clinical severity and risk adjustment standards.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include reviewing inpatient and outpatient medical records to determine principal and secondary diagnoses, assigning appropriate DRGs, querying providers for clinical clarity, and educating healthcare staff on documentation best practices to improve specificity and compliance.
- • The role operates within the CDI-Finance department of Cleveland Clinic, a nationally recognized healthcare system committed to excellence, innovation, and patient-centered care. The team supports clinical documentation integrity across diverse care settings, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, and ambulatory surgery centers.
- • In this role, the individual will develop expertise in clinical documentation integrity, coding compliance (ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCC), and risk adjustment methodologies, while advancing toward professional certifications such as ACDIS and building a long-term career in healthcare documentation and finance integration.
🎯 Requirements
- • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent
- • Five years of experience as a clinical nurse, inpatient or outpatient coder OR two years of experience as a Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist
- • Understanding of risk-adjusted payment methodologies, HCC assignment, professional and facility coding, billing, and APC/OPPS reimbursement
