Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the data backbone that powers the next generation of robotics. As a Senior Data Engineer at Foxglove, you will architect and scale the ingestion, storage, and retrieval systems that handle petabyte-scale sensor data from autonomous machines around the globe. Your work will directly accelerate the deployment of robots that save lives, automate dangerous tasks, and unlock new economic value.
- • Design and operate ultra-low-latency streaming and batch pipelines that ingest lidar, camera, radar, and telemetry data in real time. You will optimize for both high-throughput batch loads and sub-second query response times, ensuring that robotics engineers can instantly replay any slice of data by device, timestamp, or sensor modality.
- • Build the indexing and caching layers that enable random-access playback over massive, multimodal datasets. You will implement novel data layouts, compression strategies, and distributed caching mechanisms so that a 100-hour autonomous-vehicle log can be scrubbed to any millisecond without perceptible delay.
- • Deliver multi-cloud analytics infrastructure that runs securely inside customer environments on GCP, AWS, and Azure. You will create Terraform modules and Kubernetes operators that provision isolated, policy-compliant clusters in minutes, then tear them down when the job is done.
- • Tackle the unique challenge of offloading data from edge devices in bandwidth-constrained, intermittently connected environments. You will craft adaptive protocols that prioritize critical sensor frames, resume interrupted uploads, and minimize cloud egress costs.
- • Collaborate daily with product engineers, roboticists, and UX designers to translate user pain points into elegant technical solutions. You will lead architecture reviews, mentor junior engineers, and champion best practices in observability, testing, and performance tuning.
- • Contribute to Foxglove’s open-source ethos by publishing design docs, benchmarking studies, and reusable libraries that raise the bar for the entire robotics community.
- • Influence the roadmap: your telemetry on query latency, storage cost, and customer usage will directly shape which features we build next and how we price them.
🎯 Requirements
- • 8+ years shipping high-performance production software with measurable SLAs
- • Proven expertise building REST or gRPC APIs in TypeScript, Go, or Rust
- • Deep SQL mastery—schema design, query-plan optimization, and scaling PostgreSQL to terabyte+ workloads
- • Hands-on experience designing and operating distributed systems on Kubernetes
- • Familiarity with React or similar frameworks for building internal data-exploration tools
🏖️ Benefits
- • $300 monthly stipend for commuter benefits or personal workspace setup
- • Competitive equity grant in a well-funded Series A company
- • 100% employer-paid medical, dental, vision, and term life insurance for employees; 75% for dependents
- • 401(k) with 4% company match, 4 weeks PTO plus holidays and winter break, and two all-expenses-paid company off-sites per year
