  • • As a Coder IV at Denver Health and Hospital Authority, you will play a pivotal role within the HB & PB Coding Services department, contributing significantly to the department's overall success and the accurate classification and reimbursement of patient care.
  • • Your primary responsibility will involve meticulously reviewing medical record documentation to abstract and assign diagnoses, procedures, and modifiers. This critical task ensures statistical classification and facilitates appropriate reimbursement, adhering to all applicable Official Coding Guidelines.
  • • You will be entrusted with various complex coding assignments, operating under the direct guidance of Coding Management, demonstrating advanced experience and sound judgment in planning and accomplishing coding goals.
  • • For the Level IV inpatient coder role, your main focus will be on coding inpatient accounts. This requires a high level of proficiency in ICD-10-CM diagnosis coding and PCS, including a strong understanding of DRG coding.
  • • A key aspect of this advanced role is the experience in writing physician queries, which is essential for clarifying documentation and ensuring coding accuracy.
  • • For the professional coding aspect, you will be responsible for coding complex inpatient, observation, surgical, and procedural areas. This demands proficiency in both ICD-10-CM diagnosis coding and CPT procedure coding.
  • • You will be expected to consistently meet or exceed the minimum coding productivity standards for the type of coding performed, submitting a fully completed and accurate production log weekly in a timely manner.
  • • Maintaining a high standard of accuracy is paramount, with the expectation to meet or exceed a minimum coding accuracy rate of 95% and adhere to minimum timeliness standards.
  • • A significant part of your role will involve participating in coder and provider education initiatives, including documentation improvement efforts for providers. This collaborative aspect requires interaction with providers, nursing staff, and other departments as assigned.
  • • You will also assist in the training and quality assurance processes for all coding levels, contributing to the development and skill enhancement of your colleagues.
  • • Continuous learning is essential; you will be required to complete any assigned coding training or other coding instruction, and crucially, maintain your current coding credential.
  • • Active participation in departmental coding and educational meetings, as well as roundtables, is expected to foster a collaborative and knowledgeable coding environment.
  • • You will strictly follow all departmental and Denver Health and Hospital Authority (DHHA) procedures, and diligently follow directions provided by Coding Management.
  • • Resource management is important; you will manage resources in a conservative, responsible, and cost-effective manner.
  • • Ensuring the confidentiality of patient information is a top priority. You will create and maintain a secure and trusting environment by not sharing information learned on the job, except when absolutely necessary for the performance of your job responsibilities.
  • • You will function as an integral member of the coding team, working towards the successful benefit of the department and DHHA as a whole.
  • • Striving for strong unit cohesion by working effectively with other team members and performing tasks in a manner that maintains positive team dynamics is highly valued.
  • • You will leverage your advanced knowledge of coding and compliance, coupled with a working knowledge of hospital-based and teaching physician guidelines, to perform your duties.
  • • Your role will involve utilizing encoder and data abstraction software, alongside a strong understanding of billing and reimbursement principles.
  • • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills will be essential as you interpret coding guidelines and make subsequent coding decisions.
  • • You will be knowledgeable in researching coding-related topics and issues, staying abreast of industry changes and best practices.
  • • The ability to handle a fast-paced environment and serve as a positive role model for the team is crucial.
  • • You must be capable of reading and interpreting complex coding guidelines and making accurate coding decisions.
  • • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently while meeting deadlines are vital for success in this role.
  • • You will utilize your good oral and written communication skills to interact with colleagues and potentially present information.
  • • Good computer keyboarding skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite are necessary for daily tasks.
  • • While not strictly required, experience with Epic and encoder software will be considered helpful.
