Founded in 2019 by a collaborative team of clinical experts and individuals with lived experience, Equip builds upon established evidence-based treatments to empower patients on their journey to lasting recovery. Each patient is supported by a dedicated, multidisciplinary care team, comprising a therapist, dietitian, physician, and peer and family mentor, all working in concert to provide comprehensive support.
- • The company operates nationwide, serving patients in all 50 states and maintaining partnerships with a majority of major health insurance plans. This broad reach underscores Equip's commitment to making high-quality eating disorder treatment accessible to a diverse population. Prospective candidates can explore Equip's strong patient outcomes and innovative treatment approach by visiting https://equip.health/outcomes and www.equip.health.
- • Since its inception, Equip has operated as a fully virtual organization, fostering a highly engaged, passionate, and diverse workforce known as 'Equisters.' This unique culture has been recognized externally, with Equip being named one of TIME's most influential companies of 2023, alongside accolades from LinkedIn and Lattice, highlighting the significant contributions of its employees in building a sustainable and impactful treatment program that has already served thousands of individuals and families.
- • The Commercial Counsel role is pivotal to Equip's continued growth and operational excellence. Reporting directly to the Associate General Counsel, this position will act as a strategic legal partner to various business units. The primary objective is to ensure that all commercial transactions, strategic partnerships, and vendor relationships are executed with the utmost speed, precision, and legal integrity. This role requires a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating commercial risks, streamlining the entire contracting lifecycle, and developing a robust contractual framework that can effectively scale alongside Equip's expanding operations.
- • Key responsibilities include leading the negotiation and finalization of complex commercial agreements. This encompasses a wide range of contracts, such as payor agreements critical for reimbursement and operational viability, as well as essential vendor agreements that support the company's infrastructure and service delivery. The Commercial Counsel will ensure these agreements not only meet business objectives but also adhere strictly to all relevant regulatory requirements, particularly within the healthcare sector.
- • A crucial aspect of this role involves staying abreast of and monitoring evolving regulatory landscapes that impact commercial agreements. This includes a deep understanding of U.S. healthcare laws and regulations, ensuring ongoing compliance and proactively adapting contractual strategies to maintain legal integrity. The Commercial Counsel will be instrumental in developing and maintaining a comprehensive commercial contracting playbook. This playbook will serve as a foundational resource, outlining standard templates, fallback positions, and best practices to drive organizational consistency, enhance efficiency, and ensure scalability across all contracting processes.
- • The role demands a keen ability to identify potential legal risks embedded within proposed business workflows and to implement effective strategies for risk mitigation, thereby safeguarding the company's interests. Furthermore, the Commercial Counsel will be responsible for managing external legal counsel for specialized matters, ensuring that these engagements yield cost-effective results that are seamlessly integrated with overarching business objectives. This involves strategic selection and oversight of outside counsel to maximize value and alignment.
- • Providing practical, solution-oriented legal guidance to internal stakeholders is a core function. This involves advising on commercial legal decisions and activities, empowering business teams to navigate complex legal considerations effectively. Collaboration with the Legal Operations team is also essential, focusing on driving efficiency and implementing automation within contracting workflows and management systems to optimize processes and reduce manual effort.
- • The Commercial Counsel will also be tasked with performing other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to contribute to the broader legal department's goals and the company's mission. This role is integral to supporting Equip's mission of accessible, evidence-based eating disorder treatment by ensuring a solid legal foundation for its commercial endeavors.
