- • As the Community Manager at Colonist, you will be the central figure responsible for nurturing and growing our vibrant global gaming community. This role is pivotal in shaping the culture and fostering a sense of belonging among millions of players who engage with our digital board game platform. You will act as the primary voice of Colonist, ensuring consistent, on-brand communication across all community channels, and serve as the pulse, actively listening to and interpreting player sentiment to drive product improvements and strategic decisions.
- • Your core mission is to build and maintain strong, lasting relationships with our player base, transforming casual players into dedicated advocates and lifelong fans. This involves not just moderating discussions but actively engaging with players, understanding their needs, and creating experiences that foster loyalty and excitement. You will be instrumental in making Colonist not just a platform, but a true community hub.
- • A significant part of your responsibility will be to own and manage our Discord server, the primary hub for our community. This includes daily moderation to ensure a positive and respectful environment, enforcing community guidelines consistently and fairly, managing bots and roles to streamline operations, and structuring channels to facilitate engaging conversations and easy navigation.
- • You will be the architect of our community content strategy, responsible for writing and publishing all official communications. This encompasses crafting clear and engaging patch notes, informative newsletters, exciting announcements, and other community updates. Your writing will be crucial in maintaining our brand voice and ensuring players are always informed and excited about what's happening at Colonist.
- • A key element of community engagement will be your role in organizing and running regular tournaments and competitive seasons. This involves everything from scheduling events and managing brackets to providing real-time moderation during gameplay and ensuring accurate reporting of results. These events are vital for driving player engagement and fostering a competitive spirit.
- • You will proactively build direct relationships with key community members, including top players, influential streamers, and content creators. By fostering these relationships, you can amplify our reach, gather valuable feedback, and create collaborative opportunities that benefit both the community and Colonist.
- • A critical function of this role is to act as the eyes and ears of the company within the community. You will be responsible for reporting weekly on community sentiment, synthesizing feedback, identifying trends, and highlighting what players love, dislike, and wish to see improved. This intelligence will be gathered from various sources, including Discord, Reddit, and other social media platforms, providing invaluable insights for our product and marketing teams.
- • To ensure a welcoming experience for new players, you will create and maintain essential onboarding content. This includes developing effective welcome flows, comprehensive beginner guides, and readily accessible FAQs that help new users get started and understand the platform quickly.
- • You will also manage and optimize our referral program. This involves tracking key metrics, identifying opportunities for improvement, refining program mechanics, and coordinating closely with the marketing team to ensure its success and drive player acquisition.
- • To support these efforts, you will produce engaging content in various formats. This includes crafting compelling posts for different platforms, designing eye-catching graphics using tools like Canva, and producing short-form videos using tools like CapCut to enhance community engagement and communication.
- • This role requires a proactive, self-directed individual who thrives in an asynchronous, remote work environment. You will be expected to manage your time effectively, prioritize tasks, and deliver high-quality work without constant supervision, embodying our company values of dependability, ownership, clear communication, efficient execution, and continuous learning.
🎯 Requirements
- • Proven experience managing and growing online gaming communities, particularly on Discord, with a deep understanding of its features, bots, permissions, and moderation best practices.
- • Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, engaging, and on-brand content for diverse audiences across multiple platforms.
- • A genuine passion for board games and a strong understanding of online gaming culture and player motivations, ideally with experience playing Catan or on the Colonist platform.
- • Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities, projects, and deadlines effectively in a remote, asynchronous setting.
- • Empathy and strong interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to handle conflict resolution calmly, fairly, and constructively.
